Freedom Of The SoulA Poem by ZDMusgroveThis came to me after reading the quote, "Every secret of a writer's soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works." (Virginia Woolf)
My soul has been stolen by my work.
It is wrapped around each line like a fine scarf, Or a treacherous serpent. I will let you decide. It coats my words in a fine glaze of experiences. My soul runs free With a dust cloud of letters at its heel. It dashes from line to line Leaving footprints of memories on everyone. It seems to spend more time with my writing than with me. I wonder what would happen When it would slip and fall, But to my amazement it would stumble With the most elaborate grace. Maybe I am looking at it wrong. Maybe I don't own my soul, but my soul owns me.
