Friends

We all need them. Who else would we have to lie to us about how we look and to make us feel special?

They are always by my side

To help me through the thick and thin.

Always there to make me smile

And to make sure my frown never makes it out the bin.

They make me fell special

Even when I do not think so.

They are my companions on this vessel.

Always having oars ready to row

Through the obstacles of life.

Together we are a floating merry band.

In all shapes and sizes from the Trombone to the Fife.

Together we can find our way through the sea of falling sand,

Because we are more than buds

We are family even if some of us are duds.

There are lots of gems in this poem. I love friendship poems (ask my friends, they'll tell you - lol)
I especially loved the boat and shipmates and voyage metaphors
this was my favourite - "Together we are a floating merry band.
In all shapes and sizes from the Trombone to the Fife." - so very true and yet something that we never really think about (the various shapes and sizes of our friends - not that it matters - which you rightly point out here.)
"A sea of falling sand " - ye Gods !! cracking line !
