The DayA Poem by Taylor MasonA short poem celebrating the day that Christ was raised from the dead! This last week was hard for you, wasn't it? To think, that just 8 days ago, as you rode on a donkey People cheered for you, waved branches for you, They thought you were the eternal King!
Then you got to town, and people started asking you questions. They wanted to hear your answers, so you thought. But what they really wanted was for you to trap yourself And have an excuse to throw you in the dungeon.
And so though they had no right, they made one up And used your friend, who all believed to be true At your last meal, he left the table To do the dirty work he was called to do
As you prayed and cried, he found you there And led the guards right to your side You let them, giving up your life Though others tried and others cried
From one king to another they hauled you around Until finally they determined they had just cause They led you to a hill to die Just as you'd planned, though none knew why
While on that cross, you hung in shame Though in your heart, you knew your plan It was for me you bore that pain To give me hope and bring me life.
But if you'd only died, and never came back I would still have only pain and sorrow. For although there is no price to pay There is no victory over death and hell.
But you did it! You beat them down You squashed the power of the evil one And so, on this day we celebrate The momentous occasion of your power and might. © 2008 Taylor Mason |
