Interlude: Chapters 1 and 2A Chapter by Z_AssaadRandom perceptions.Interlude Chapter 1 Inevitably someone asks me, “How do you play guitar" and
"make sound come out of it". This
is a hard question to answer. It takes
practice, of course. But, it also takes
an intangible talent and an innate dexterity.
Sadly, few are born with these. Yet, the good news is anyone may become
technically proficient in music, and with an instrument. Anyone may create music. I simply want to be realistic when I say, “NOT
EVERYONE IS A MUSICIAN.” I have an easy test to determine if your dexterity is up to par for playing an
instrument. Ask yourself,
"When I use the television remote, do I have to look at it?" If answered, “Now
that you mention it... NO! I do not look at the ‘clicker’!” odds are you can
learn to play an instrument, and, at least grow to become technically proficient. Interlude Chapter 2 Am I correct in assuming, that the movie scenes most often remembered
and quoted, are not necessarily memorable because of their music? The most popular movie of the year, may not
be acknowledged for its musical score. Even
today there is a disparity among the mainstream Awards and the lesser known,
more ambiguous, Oscar Awards. Two
awards, of which are for “Best Original Score”, and “Best Adaptation
Score”. Two? Only two awards to
acknowledge a category so important, and essential? A category already dwarfed
in comparison to the likes of “Best Actor”, and “Best Adapted Screenplay”. This seems a huge disservice, as is normally
the case. That which is most important
often goes unnoticed until it is gone, taken, or removed. Save a few exceptions, I may say this with complete
certainty. Minus their musical accompaniment,
these “Screen Gems” may have left far less an impact, and imprint on Popular
Culture… if any at all. It is music
which sets a mood, the ambience, and the tone of an experience. It helps in the processing of our own
personal experiences. Simply, music
fleshes out and defines, audibly, the human condition. At times, I feel music and its application
even border on dictation and manipulation of our naturally self-aware and reflective
minds. Our primitive brain may be so
easily subdued and persuaded © 2014 Z_Assaad |
