The Unknown

The Unknown

A Poem by AlphaGemini

The Unknown

I am that which lurks in the dark.

The night moonless, the forest black.

You strain to listen, ears ringing with the silence.

For some unimagined sound.

I am that which chills your spine.

The creaking stair in an empty house.

You know I am there, behind you, so close.

If you look, I disappear.

I am that which makes you freeze.

Heart racing, feet immobile.

You wish you could run, could flee the terror.

The horror as even your own body becomes a prison.

I am that which you fear the most.

Deep in the recesses of your mind.

Beneath darkened stair and murky lake.

Shoved to where the light of your thoughts seldom shines.

I am the unknown.
