The Monster Living in My Room

The Monster Living in My Room

A Poem by Yvette Shaw
"

A few months ago my son discovered that he had a monster living in him room. And it was o.k.

"

The Monster Living in my Room

Mom there’s a monster, under the bed,

he jumped out, and sat on my head.

What did you do? what did you say?

I told him that he needed to go away.

But he came back, he’s still here. I want

you, I need you, too make him disappear.

I tell you what, we’ll search the room. We’ll

run him away, with the swish of this broom.

O.k., I like that, it’s sounds really good. But

Mom, remember, he lives in my room.

O.k.? so what then? Do you want me to make

him go away? To send him packing, vanish

him to space?

Just tell him to be quiet, to stay on his side.

I was sleeping, and he woke me, to tell me

good night…

~smiles~ how sweet, innocent and funny at the same time... I love this poem, I love how you've managed to capture the the wonder and humour of the young mind.
I have two children myself and they're a constant source of amazment to me... well done for capturing this and writing it down with such originality... and what a way to preserve memories too... your son will be thrilled when he's older to have these constant reminders of his childhood and until then, when he's at the "in between stage" you can use them to blackmail him into submission... Lol

That was really cute and I enjoyed reading it. I have a son who will be 3 in few months. I can't wait to have that kind of conversations with him like that anytime soon (lol) It should be very interesting for me to deal with him like that...

Anyway, it's a real nice writing you got there and somehow, it reminded me of old books "Where The Wild Things Are" and "Nightmare In My Closet" Remember them? (lol) So, it's all good there...

I remember that sometimes I would sleep under my bed because, if I slept under there, there was no room for anyone else to be sleeping under there! It made perfect sense to me at the time! haha Great write! Thanks for sharing this!

Very entertaining! I was the biggest scaredy-cat in the world when I was little. Monsters, skeletons and ghost peered out at me from everywhere, even that crack in the ceiling. Thanks for sharing it! Sam
