What Good Is A Secret?A Poem by Yvette ShawA woman understands in adulthood, the role the secret of their love played in her and her girlsfriends lives.
WHAT GOOD IS A SECRET?
please don’t tell she asked
as she walked off towards the sun
my heart raced to catch up with
what had just begun
what good is a secret? if the
thought of it being exposed
doesn’t unnerve you
just promise to keep it and no
one will hurt you
we were thirteen years old
our hearts still strong and bold
neither of us understanding the
lie our secret would hold
I learned something that day
as it turned into years…
A secret is nothing more
than hiding your fears
what good is a secret?
it’s no good at all
it’s just the silence
before the fall
