What Good Is A Secret?

What Good Is A Secret?

A Poem by Yvette Shaw
"

A woman understands in adulthood, the role the secret of their love played in her and her girlsfriends lives.

"

WHAT GOOD IS A SECRET?

please don’t tell she asked
as she walked off towards the sun

my heart raced to catch up with
what had just begun

what good is a secret? if the
thought of it being exposed
doesn’t unnerve you

just promise to keep it and no
one will hurt you

we were thirteen years old
our hearts still strong and bold

neither of us understanding the
lie our secret would hold

I learned something that day
as it turned into years…

A secret is nothing more
than hiding your fears

what good is a secret?
it’s no good at all
it’s just the silence
before the fall

what good is a secret? if the thought of it being exposed doesn't unnerve you - I like this line especially.

Very excellently written, this telling of young love...innocence lost and yet, innocence gained. Poignant and beautiful...Great job!

I almost forgot - this one is going in My Favorites!

I love angel's explaination below: innocence lost and yet, innocence gained.
I also loved the tender completion of your poem. beautiful!

Beautiful piece Yvette... a strikingly intuitive and refreshing perspective on something that can make or break a person

"I learned something that day as it turned into years A secret is nothing more than hiding your fears"

...I am always wowed by your depth of perception and how you express it so freely and without any inhibition

...and now I'll have to rob this and stick it in my faves ~muhahaha~

the poem is perfect. i love to read poetry such as yours: after i've reached the conclusion, i think to myself, 'ahh, man!'
everything is well organized. it must have taken you some extra time
