Chapter fourA Chapter by Yue RyderWalking down the empty hallway felt odd I just found out about Edward and Alphonse, I could not seem to shake the thought out of my mind. What made them decide to attempt something so dangerous? I thought to myself, Hughes seemed to have noticed my concerned expression and stopped. “Listen Yue…they may not seem like they’re capable of handling problems but those two are very unique, give them a chance ok?” he smiled and patted my head. Of course, he would say something like that Leave it to Hughes to make everything seem ok. Brushing that thought out of my mind, I wanted to meet my new boss, Judging by how they made her sound she seems to be pretty smart and handy. I will admit though; I am somewhat nervous to meet her. Looking down at my files, I read the small printed name that said, “Riza Hawkeye…” I said with a calm tone. Hughes chuckled and stated, “Oh you’ll have fun with her and Roy” with a goofy smile. I had a bad feeling that this ‘Roy Mustang’ was going to be a pain in my a*s. Finally, after walking for about twenty minutes we made it to a small wooden door painted white. Hughes knocked twice and all we could hear was a faint voice saying, “Come in!” We both walked in to see four men and one woman working on a table divided into five slots. Two were on the phone, one was filling out papers, one was filing papers and one was relaxing with an unlighted cigarette. The Blond hair woman walked up to me and said, “you must be Yue Ryder, it’s a pleasure to meet you” She held out her right hand waiting for my reply. I Nodded and replied, “Likewise Ms. Hawkeye, I plan to enjoy my time here working with you” and shook her hand with mine. She seemed to be very polite and calm; I was looking forward to working with her. “We have a new requite?” asked the man with a cigarette in his mouth. “Yep and be nice to her havoc” said the chubby man on the phone. “Yue why not introduce yourself to the team” Hughes suggested. I bowed down lightly and said, “Private Yue Ryder at your service, I am pleased to work with all of you.” I stood up straight and instead of a reply, they just started to laugh. “Um? D-did I do something?” I ask with a confused look. The chubby man hung up the phone and stood up walking towards me; “listen kid, you don’t need to act so proper towards us just be yourself.” Hearing this I relaxed my shoulders took a deep breath in. “Yea we all are pretty simple here and you don’t have to act different just cause were higher ranks than you.” Said the man with black hair and glasses. Hughes hit my back gently and started to laugh, “don’t worry you’ll get used to their personality’s.” I did not think that my new job would have such; interesting people. I was very happy to meet them all, there was Kain Fuery the gentle and helpful solider he was the shortest of them all and very cheerful. Riza Hawkeye the sole female of the group strong and dependable. Vato Falman the intelligent of the five with extraordinary memory, Jean Havoc the capable man who works very hard to keep up with the rest, and finally Heymans Breda who graduated at the top of his class and specializes in all sorts of information and missions. “Starting today Yue, you will be a part of Mustangs unit,” Hughes said proudly as if he won an award. “Has she met the colonel yet Hughes?” havoc asked Hughes shook his head and crossed his arms. “I’m not sure if I want her to meet Roy yet…” he replied with a stern tone it is as if he was concerned about the whole thing. Hughes may be a pain in my butt; but it is hard to take him seriously, he acts like an over protective father half the time. “Why don’t you want me to meet him?” I asked but judging by his expression, he really did not want to answer me. Some time ago, Hughes would always talk about this man and how he was a great person and he works hard so I don’t understand why he would act so different now.
The room went quiet and after ten minutes, Hughes gave a soft sigh and said “He’s the flame alchemist of the military Yue…” right at that moment my feelings and thoughts changed. He was an alchemist, a person who uses a dangerous element as a weapon to fight. My emotions were everywhere I couldn’t think straight. I am not fond of certain alchemist; some people take advantage of the elements and use them for their own needs. I get that the military have alchemist but it still bothered me. Hughes mentioned the war that happened in ishval and he mentioned the use of alchemy. There were a small group of men who were called in to help take care of the ‘problem ‘at that time and Hughes would tell me that two men too advantage of their alchemy Brig. General Grand was a state alchemist who used his alchemy for power and wiped out half of the people who lived there. Major Alex Louis Armstrong was known to be the Strong Arm Alchemist who trapped the people inside by making a wall. Hughes kept saying he was so devastated that he wept for every person who suffered. I will never forget the name of the man who was known as the Crimson Lotus Alchemist. He killed and slaughtered many innocent people, and he used a certain type of stone, His name was Solf J. Kimblee. After hearing about this my respect towards any alchemist decreased a lot but he never said that Roy was a alchemist, he would tell me the stories of the time they spent together and the funny moment they had but he never mention him being a alchemist. I am wondering why he never told me I get that I would probably not be comfortable around him but I will still try my best to at least treat him like a human being.
With all of that fuss out of the way, I got the courage to get up and tell Hughes “alright, let’s go meet this guy.” Hughes seemed to stare at me with a ‘are you kidding me’ look but I was very serious. I wanted to meet this person and try to make a new friend at least. Hughes kept going on and on about how if I was sure on doing this, “Hughes I made up my mind stop making it a big deal. “ I said with a frustrated tone. “I just want to make sure you’re ok with this, I know how you get Yue” Hughes replied with a worrying tone. Before I could answer him, I bumped into a girl who was holding a tray of coffee. Falling on my butt, I looked over to see whom I bumped into. “I’m so sorry!” she said in such a high-energized voice; she got on her knees and started to clean up the spilt coffee with thin napkins. “No its fine, it was my fault for not paying attention” I replied extending out my hand to help her up. “Oh hi! I like your skirt it looks really cute!” She said to me pointing at my outfit. “Did you make it? Or did they change the uniform? I want one just like yours!” she circled me examining the outfit from head to toe. It is as if she forgot what just happened, “Um…Thank you?” I replied. Flashing a wide smile she hugged me very tightly and let go bowing her head in respect, “my name is miyo hitsugaya it is very nice to meet you Ms.” Well that was an interesting introduction, “Nice to meet you to miyo, I’m Yue Ryder” I replied giving a small smile. “Well I wish I could stay longer but I have to run back to the Café’ to get more coffee, See ya!” with a quick wave she ran off down the hall to the nearest exit door. “sweet kid” Hughes said laughing a little. “she’s interesting…do you know her?” I asked him. Hughes smiled and nodded, “she’s’ been here for about six months already, she keeps everyone happy by motiving them.” Well that’s good to hear about her, she seems like a nice girl.
