Chapter three

  Today was turning out to be great, I met a new friend who for some reason like has to wear armored suits, my best friend was going to work with me and my boss was so nice to me. I did not think that a first day on the job would turn out this good. “You will be working under the command of Riza Hawkeye.” Hughes said, with that, the Furthers secretary handed me my files. It was so odd but she somewhat reminds me of the boy I met earlier. “Thank you Ms.?” I looked at her curiously. “Juliet, Juliet Douglas. Pleased to meet you Ms. Ryder.” She replied with a gentle smile. “It’s very nice to meet you to Ms. Douglas” I replied with a cheerful and yet calming voice, she smiled at me and nodded. As I began to leave, I noticed that Juliet kept staring at me as I left. I could not control my thoughts about that woman, she was very…Meticulous.

“She seems like an interesting girl sir “Juliet said to the further. Further Bradly walked to his desk and rested his head on his palm. “It seems we might need to keep a closer eye on her” he replied with a Tiring sigh. “I will request some men to keep an eye on her.” she said and continued to work. Not focusing on Hughes rambling about his daughter I examined my papers and noticed an error. “Hey Hughes?” I called, “yes? Yue?” he answered while holding his wallet full of pictures of his wife and daughter. “Why does it say ‘Position; Private’ and ‘will be under the command of Riza Hawkeye and Roy Mustang’ I thought it was only one person?” I asked. Hughes began to laugh while I stood there confused as I was. “Yue...Yue...Yue you still have a lot to learn, Riza is the First Lieutenant who is under the command of Roy Mustang who is Colonel.” He said still laughing. Ok that does all fine but why was he laughing was it something I said. He calmed down enough to speak properly and with a great smile, he said “you are also the Second to last lowest rank” and with that being said I understand why he was laughing at me. Well at least now, I know I am a weak rank and I have no clue of what I am doing.

Finally, after walking through the Maze of halls we made it to Hughes office. “Welcome back sir” his assistant greeted with a proper gesture towards us. Suddenly a loud ‘BANG’ came from the other room, rushing towards the room we found a pile’s of books everywhere. “Wow Hughes I didn’t know you read a lot at work” I exclaimed clenching onto my chest. Hughes seemed to not worry about the mess, “it’s not books, and there reports from investigations.” He said while walking around the room, He paused near his desk and sat down relaxing himself on his chair. “Hey Sheska have you written down the report on the various murders around the central park yet?” at first I thought that he was referring to his assistant but to my surprise I heard a small voice come from under the piles of books. “Yes sir! I filed the report now can you please help me get out of here?”

Screaming my head off I rushed over to the pile and dug till I found the arm of the person. Throwing each book behind me, I successfully found brown shorthaired women with prescribed glasses on, and helped her up. “Thank you so much it means a lot” she smiled and bowed half her body towards me. Breathing and starring at the women with gleaming eyes I responded still huffing and puffing “anytime, why and how did you bury yourself in books” I asked. She smiled at me awkwardly and chuckled “I had piles of books on my desk and it collapsed on top of me but its ok it happens a lot to me.” It took a moment for me to realize that my best friend was here the whole time and did not even help. “What!” I screamed and turned right to Hughes, with an infuriating voice I yelled “what kind of boss doesn’t care About his assistant and leaves them buried in books!” Hughes starred at me with a blank face as if he didn’t know what I was talking about. “Don’t give me that look mister dad you know what exactly I’m talking about.” Watching him and he walked over to a very upset and worried girl and patted me on the head. “She’s fine Yue, thank you for helping her now she can get back to work-“before he could finish his sentence I took a book from behind me and hit him straight across the face with all my might. Watching the man fall to his bottom as he held his right cheek in which it now had a red mark. “What was that for?” he asked with a weary voice as if trying to act innocent. He knew exactly why I hit him, but I did feel bad so I hugged him and patted his head. “I’m sorry but your actions sometimes urge me to hit you Hughes, but I love you to much to stay mad.” With that responded he smiled and hugged me close. Hughes was a great person even though at time he may hit a nerve but no matter what I still, love him. I mean he was my only friend growing up and it means a lot to me I am grateful that he has always been there for me.

Around twelve o’clock Hughes and I went out to eat lunch and surprisingly we bumped into Alphonse and Edward. “Hey Elric brothers” Hughes called out to the two, Edward turned around and smiled. I was kind of afraid to talk to Ed since this morning and I didn’t think he would want to talk me plus I didn’t want to get yelled at or scolded for his um…height again. “Lieutenant Colonel Hughes good to see you again” Ed responded with a smile. I was not to surprise that they knew each other because they technically work together. Hughes was happy to see them to but automatically his facial expression changed, “I need to talk to about something Edward, follow me please,” Hughes asked with a serious tone in his voice.

Edward and Hughes walked off near the gates; I assumed that it had to be important so I stood with Alphonse. I was curious about Alphonse and the whole armor suit thing, “Alphonse why do you wear an armored suit?” I asked. Alphonse looked at me, and judging by the sound of his voice, he seemed nervous about something. “Uh well…” he responded, before he could continue Edward came back and walked passed Al. “come on Al we need to go”  in my mind I knew something was off about those two but as alphonse stared at me he bowed to me and said “sorry but I have to go now.” I understood that he was busy and I did not mind so I flashed a small smile to al reassuring that it was ok. Watching Alphonse leave I overheard him run, “he’s…hollow…” I said in astonishment. Hughes came back and patted me on the back “try not to be too surprised Yue, he’s tries not to make it obvious.” He said to me. Now I understand; Edward did something to cause his brother to end up like that. “I’ve heard stories about alchemist and what they do and I have done some research myself Hughes,” I said as I watched them leave. Hughes seemed a little shocked to hear this from me he asked, “Are you one as well Yue?” I chuckled at him and closed my eyes for a moment taking in the air I could. With a smile I tilted my head to the side a little and held my right arm with my left hand,

“Only fools who are willing to do anything are alchemist Hughes, only a fool can be an alchemist.”
