The Tranquil scent of Rose

The Tranquil scent of Rose

A Poem by Your Victim

The Tranquil Scent of Rose

Hunting for sweet happiness,

I weave among the thorns,

Brackets of angry, brutal roses,

They scar my skin… I’m torn.

The pastel petals elude me,

Shining timid with the dew,

Soft surfaces to touch and soothe"

Beneath the surface, bruised,

And the stems that turn the soil dry,

Encased in biting spears,

Engrave my skin with poison lies,

Just promises to fear.

What happened to the fragrance?

A flower beneath the nose…

Was it just to lure me?

The tranquil scent of rose.

I miss the placid beauty,

The vicious vines once held,

And the virtue naked in our eyes,

Before it was expelled.

Don’t you miss the honesty?

The era before facades,

When roses were just roses,

And we ran against the odds.

A time before pretenses,

Green grasses in the fields,

“I love you” was a foreign phrase,

There was no call for shields.

I could walk among these gardens,

Breathe in the sweet perfume,

Trace the patterned petals,

With the beauty in full bloom.

When once the crimson glory,

Whispered sweet dreams in my sleep,

Promises of happiness,

The promises I keep.

The perfect petals dancing,

Like snowflakes to the ground,

Cascading to their graveyard,

A withered blackened mound.

Upon it rests my foolish dreams,

Concocted in my sleep,

It’s all because of roses,

And reality they’ve reaped.
