The Gold StandardA Poem by Geoffrey SpriggottEvery social group of friends has that one couple whose relationship everyone else pins their hopes on succeeding. But do we only add pressure by doing this, and make things harder for them?
We put the squeeze on you
Carelessly without aforethought, Breathless in our appreciation. You had the last good raft. Gray figures, wordlessly clawing at throats - In our drowning we held you up; The last couple Carrying our projected hopes Married to our wishes for a brighter life. We killed you quicker than fame buries talent, Damming your vessel with idolatry, mute to the signs. We scuttled you with ignorance. © 2014 Geoffrey SpriggottFeatured Review
