Countdown to Oblivion (read out loud)

Countdown to Oblivion (read out loud)

A Poem by Geoffrey Spriggott
"

You can only trust the numbers.... Based on an Adam Curtis documentary The Trap I saw on thought-maybe site.

"
Human beings, always betray you.
You can Only trust the numbers.

Ten, Nine, eight, seven
Six, five
Foouur
Threeee
Twooo

One..

The numbers show body-bags and troops hitting targets.
The numbers show doctors and nurses in action
Serving the public to our satisfaction.

The numbers will free you  like tender restraints,
Their unblinking coldness burns bright, as a flame.
Self-interest runs the show; we call it
‘The game‘.

But what if I’m wrong and we’re not all competing?

No use thinking like that -
My reports due this evening.

The president  will read, base his views on my thinking.

Human beings, always betray you.
You can Only trust the numbers.

Ten, Nine, eight, seven
Six, five
Foouur
Threeee
Twooo

One…
