Before You

Before You

A Poem by Viki Rachel
"

My ideal romance.

"

Before you,

   I didn't watch Lifetime and believe;

     I didn't cry in romantic movies when the main character

Dies.

Before you,

   I thought life was bleak;

     I didn't look at the stars and think of your

Eyes.

Before you,

   I didn't collect grocery lists off the ground and cook with the food;

     I didn't look at all of the colors of the

Flowers.

Before you,

   I never thought love was possible;

     I cried in front of no-one, only in rainy

Showers.

Before you,

    I trusted no men;

      I was so, so very

Afraid.

Before you,

     I didn't understand how it'd feel;

       To be loved and not feel

Ashamed.

Before you,

       My life was grey;

         I had never ran through a field of

Maize.

Before you,

       I listened to songs of love: dreaming;

          My life passed by in a cloudy

Haze.

Before you,

     I existed but did not live.

I absolutely loved this poem. I believe its reflections are deeply passionate and generated by the comparison between what you knew and what you have now. I, on the other hand have been deeply in love for over 40 years with the same woman. (Oh the stories I could tell you of the formative years of both of us learning what love really was). You may find this one love to be true also and unchanging throughout the years, may God bless you in that. But if you should fall prey to life's drama's and find pain even here, remember that all suffering always brings about growth. "For a seed to grow, it must first fall to the ground and die, than it can be resurrected to live a new life that bears much fruit." (The Gospel of John 12:24) Continue to dig deep, as you write these fine poems from your heart.
