Prayers of the Dead

Prayers of the Dead

A Poem by Vicky Zhuang Yi-Yin
"

regret, remorse, rewind...

"

On the deathbed

With loved ones all around

Fear for those who’re faraway

Uncertain of what is to come…

One last breath, one last sigh

The body is now laid to rest

The soul takes its final journey

Pain and struggle, all succumb

An angel arrives

With the devil by his side

They weigh your soul

Now regretful, yet numb

Silent prayers don’t mean a thing

Unsaid words left dangling

Tears for you stream on and on

But now you are long, long gone

You pray for your own rebirth

Though you know you won’t return

Your judgment is now delivered

Penitence commands you to run

Unfinished business left to do

Everything you had put on hold

Time ended before you knew it

Now you weep for time to undo…

. wow, a rather potent poetic warning to all those who are alive ... you're right ... we all have a choice ... to regret now and act ... or regret when it's too late ...

Death is the great mystery. I wonder do you ponder your destine end. I like this poem. You create a story that is a interesting way to look at death. I like the way the Roman and Greeks look at death. The ending was very good. A outstanding poem.
