Elaina Chapter 1

Elaina Chapter 1

A Chapter by Vicky Zhuang Yi-Yin

To fly does not mean to be free...

“Are you ready Elaina?” an old voice croaked from a cloaked figure.

The brunette girl nodded emotionlessly.

“Then come.” A shriveled hand grabbed her arm " despite the appearance, its grip was tight. Chains hung from her neck, wrists and ankles. She knew she had to oblige. She could neither run, nor fight. If she did, she would be killed immediately; the girl was disposable to this society.

“Your new Master is from the Noble Family, you mustn’t disappoint them.”

The girl nodded in compliance. She wore really less clothing, for convenience. Her long brown hair kept her bare shoulders warm, while the fringe covered most of her face. She never bothered to brush them aside, unless she was in training.

The halls and corridors she was being led through were cold and wet. She couldn’t complain. She was led to the next cavernous room. Fire in the torches lit the room dimly, with an ominous feel to it. Runes were scratched onto the walls, the ceiling and even the floor. Another cloaked figure was sitting there, awaiting their arrival.

“Welcome,” said the figure coldly. She took off the hood of the cloak. “This one better be a good one. It’s a shame when you have to dispose of the best ones.”

“Yes, Lady Miroko. She is the best one there is, in fact…” the old man crept closer to the woman, and whispered in her ears. She was a beautiful woman. The eye makeup did justice to her confident and proud composure. The vibrant colors were enough to show the venom inside her personality. Her lips were rosy red. Her skin looked smooth and soft. Elaina felt like she had seen her somewhere before, but couldn’t pin point as to when and where.

Miroko walked towards Elaina, who stood still. This was routine inspection she thought. The lady brushed the girl’s hair away from her face. “My, what a pretty little thing.” She turned to the old man and said, “I think I’m going to like her.”

“What is your name child?” Miroko asked.

“Elaina,” the chained child replied promptly.

“I got this made for you, hope it fits,” Miroko said, as she put her hands under her cloak and pulled out a collar. It was made of gold and silver with numerous precious stones. “It will look good on you. Let me put it on for you.”

“Milady can do as she wishes,” Elaina replied. She knew what that collar was for. Those stones were not only precious but they were also magical. This brought the power that was inside her out by force; she would be under Miroko’s control. While without it, Elaina could unleash it whenever she wanted to. Miroko could also force it back in, if Elaina wished to rebel.

Miroko quickly put the collar around her new toy’s neck and grinned ominously. “Now let’s see what she can do!”

The old man gave the noble woman a parchment; she read it and then began to murmur. Odd words from another language began to flow from her lips and too Elaina’s ears. The voice that whispered in her ears sounded deep and hollow. The collar around her neck began to pulse heavily. Every pulse was heavier than the last one. Her back began to ache painfully as if something was scratching out of it. Her hands and feet began to feel as if they were being yanked away from the wrists and ankles. Her scalp was burning. Elaina tried to hold her scream in. The tears fought to run down her cheeks.

Miroko looked on. Her smile becoming wider and wider, the anticipation inside her was overwhelming. Finally Elaina opened her mouth and her throat let out a painful piercing scream, a scream she had never heard of before…

I hope you liked this. This is first draft of chapter one. I drew that picture on the display, it is the main character herself. Constructive criticism is appreciated.
