The Age of Misery

The Age of Misery

A Poem by Vicky Zhuang Yi-Yin
"

I wrote this in my Public Finance class, I was angry for some reason, and I let my hand do the writing, and this is the result...

"
This world is a horrifying place
Discarded corpses are everywhere
Ruled by everyone’s anger and hate
The whole place is full of despair

Blood stains the precious rivers
Cries and tears fill the acrid air
Greed leads to destructive endeavors
Compassion and will have disappeared

The earth is burnt to a crisp
Food and shelter, lost commodities
Loot and rob at every chance
Let’s all welcome the age of misery

I realize this is what has been happening in Pakistan. I do hope that people will soon understand that we,as humans, need to stand up for what is right and true. May God help us. And the poem really brings out truth of the emotions one experiances during absolutely horrid circumstances. Good work :)

World is getting bad. But there are many standing for the good and the rights of others. A very cold view of this world in the poem. We with heart and conscious must stand strong for the weak and needy. We don't hear of the good deeds done by millions. Only the deeds of hate and violence come to us. A powerful poem. A good deed of a helping hand and a smile can change the world of someone.

Into this setting, a man in a slightly yellowed robe slowly walked. The robe was stained in many places and the threads were unraveled along the hem. His feet and hands were scarred and calloused. But his eyes were changed more than anything. No longer youthful, they now carried the weight of the world. Moisture welled up in them as he slowly surveyed the house and it's surroundings. A lone tear trailed down his face and plunged to the earth. As it fell, one could hear the far off screams of hungry children crying, of men dying in lands that had not born them.
Yes, but it is not all misery. There are freedom fighters that fight to resist the spread. Each one must recruit one more to keep the fight going. And that is our job.
Btw, the above (not including the freedom fighter part) is an exerpt from my short story The House
