Features of a Face

Features of a Face

A Poem by Matt Penrose

who was it that I’d seen?

the face I hadn’t remembered?

the world I now see

but I didn’t see?

the father, the brother

—are you one power, not two?

three, and whole?

you are something confusing

like the world, and its deep sense

of tragedy, its lie

—the mask hidden away from your truth.

you stranger, most of all

don’t know what you’re looking for

but you’re looking.

this face, turning every corner,

going down every street,

by every road marked by a sign

under the soft, gentle moonlight

—feeling something.

a strange memory,

wholly familiar and engulfing.

it is the road I am walking,

unnoticed and forgotten,

ignored.

a track only those who care to see

will see.

memory like an ocean,

every shine of your light

answered in glory.

oh you nameless grace,

in your presence

the world is like a garden

—everything blooming.

This is absolutely beautiful Penrose! I love your writing, it's soft and beautiful and yet powerful at the same time. You should be proud of this one.

I'm not exactly sure that i understand the message in this poem... I SEE A TYPO XD
well i think it's a typo
"oh you nameless grace, "
is it meant to be your?

but i do like it, its lovely, theres some sort of anguish in it
