A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life

A Poem by Initium

A broken promise is never as sweet
when it's not broken by me.
You look at me with disdain.
You look at me with hate.
I run and run to you
but it's always much too late.
You can't make up your mind, and when you do
you never even give me the time to apologize.
So I must stand boldly,
honestly, wholly.
Don't look at me.
Don't smile at me.
Don't smile at all.
I'm defiant. I'm rambunctious.
I'm a liar. I'm rebellious.
I grow old in  a day.
I search for gold forever.
Whatever holy light's astray,
find me. Christen me.
Give me an honest beginning.
I will stare at the oak for now,
hearing not my heart, nor any sound.
You can throw me in the pit.
I don't care.
I'm not a sinner there.
