Chapter 12- Eventful night

Chapter 12- Eventful night

A Chapter by Yashoda

*Andrew's POV*

Shay was probably on her way so I put the popcorn in the microwave, when I heard a car pull up into the driveway. I left the door unlatched so she would come in. I walked out into the living room, where the door was and I saw someone I had not expected. Melanie Haynes was in my living room. If Shay and I weren't a thing, I'd choose Melanie any day. Before I knew what was going on, she stepped up to me real quick and before I could open my mouth to question her barging in and presence, she crashed her lips onto mine.

What.

My mind was reeling. I know this was wrong but at the same time, this is something I would have wanted if Shay and I weren't together...if we weren't. Felt weird to know this wasn't something I should be doing, yet I was. I got lost as our lips moved in sync and I didn't even notice when the front door inched open.

It was only moments after I realized that Shailene was standing there in the room. That was when Melanie pulled away. Why was she even here, why did she do that? I didn't know she had a crush on me..too. This was totally irrelevant to think of right now. What was I supposed to do now? Make an excuse? Because I'm pretty sure I looked equally guilty.

I looked at Shay afterwards and see the shock on her face when she saw Mel's face. This was gonna be hard.

Before I could say anything, she stalked back out into the darkness and what confused me most in the moment, was the snug expression on Mel's face.

'What did you just do?' I asked Mel with the same amount of surprise Shay's face spoke.

'What I wanted to do for a real long time now.' She smiled as if she gained her long-time longing and I think I could say the same. But, on my part, it was just a fantasy. I needed to talk to Shailene. She would believe me, even these days, she isn't really getting me and my conflicted feelings.

Melanie walked out, got into her car and drove away within the matter of seconds as I was thinking. She left me a bit dumbfounded.

What was happening to me? What was all of this happening? Couldn't my fantasy come true kiss just go unseen? Why did Shailene have to arrive just at that moment? I needed to talk to Melanie too.

*Shailene's POV*

Good thing Veronica was still on the phone in her car. She hadn't left as yet. She was looking at me. No, she was looking behind me. When I turned to see what she was looking at, I saw the the Camry start up and drive away. When I saw Veronica's expression when I turned back to her, I realized she had also seen who it was. She ended her call and confronted me. 'Why was she here?'

'She wanted a little well wishing I guess, she sure got it good.' I was more annoyed and confused than sad.

'What do you mean?' She sounded real curious.

And, if she found out, she'd kill Melanie. I was being serious. 'She..uh..was kissing Andrew, he..well..he seemed to be enjoying it.'

'Melanie?' She laughed....then it faded. 'Please tell me you're joking.'

I strained my voice because I didn't want to talk. I was too busy swallowing back my emotions. 'I kinda wish I was.'

She looked where she was looking before. I realized that it was Andrew when she looked at me with that daredevil look in her eye. 'Can I-'

'Veronica, no.' I laughed at her reaction right now. She was going to beat him up, I was sure.

'Why not Shay? First time you said it was an accident, but if he wanted to break up with you in the first place, he should've just said so.'

'I know right?'

'Shay, don't mind me asking,' She placed her hand on the steering wheel and rocked her head back onto the seat, breaking our eye contact. I realized what she was doing because she drove off. Figure Andrew was approaching the car. Onto the main road now, she finally continued her question. 'Why aren't you sad? Not that I want you to be sad, but..um...you seem unaffected. You know...like..-'

'I know what you mean, but, I'm just confused.'

'I'm actually not confused. I told you I didn't like that b***h since the beginning. Shailene I told you.' She stretched on it now. Veronica saw through her before I did. And to think I used to trust Melanie with everything.

Veronica was clearly a better friend than she was.

Veronica only talked to Mel because we were a group of friends, one was friends with another and we just formed a little web, not necessarily liking anyone. Actually, I liked all of them...well minus one now.

'Yes, I know you told me, your expressions every time she spoke told it all.'

When we finally pulled up in front of my house, she asked, 'Do you wanna be alone? If you want company I can call and ask my mom to stay.'

'Yes, ask her, we could make murder plots for them both.'

'Okay now we're talking!' We laughed in unison.

*At the house*

We approached the door and I opened it.

Apparently witnessing one kiss wasn't enough to end my night.

As we walked into the house, we both witnessed this.

There was Martha, her body lost within my father's. Veronica stood next to me, clearly amused and we made eye contact. As I turned my head toward them, her shirt was thrown by my foot. I wasn't as traumatized as I should have been but...ew.

'Dad!' I didn't even have to fake my horrified expression. He looked up, and pushed her off of him. She was on the floor. He looked down at her for a second, just barely a second, and looked back up at us.

Lacy bra ey? Let's soil these plans she had.

Veronica helped me out. 'Mr. Haynesworth?' To make it better she said shockingly.

I didn't even bother, I'm sure after this, they'll find a room, but, just not tonight. 'Well, Veronica's staying over tonight. Bye.' I pulled her towards my bedroom, leaving dad to drown in stupor and Martha to delve deeper into how sooner or later, her plan is going to fail. Freak.

We made our way up the staircase and sat on the bed. Veronica spoke before I did. 'Shay, you're gonna have a new mommy soon.'

I gave her the death glare. 'Are you kidding me? I need to get rid of her, she's after his money.'

'Yeah but things are heating up real quick.'

'You think she's drugging him?'

'I think she's a-'

We were barely five minutes into talking when there was a knock on the door downstairs. Veronica and I looked at each other? It must be Andrew.

'Andrew wouldn't knock the door.'

'But just in case,' Veronica grabbed a stapler off the study table and said 'This ought to do it.'

'I have no baseball bat, sorry. Yeah, use that.'

We tramped down the stairs and there was a knock again.

Dad probably left with wretchy.

I looked at Veronica and nodded toward the door for her to open it. When she did and I saw her hand with the stapler relax, I took a peek from behind the now opened door.

Kendall.

'Uh..hey Shailene,' he peeked over Veronica's head. 'Friend.' He nodded at Veronica, acknowledging her.

'What brings you here?' I spoke curiously.

'I, well I can't find my wallet, so I was wondering if it fell out here earlier.'

I could see Veronica giving me the eyebrows like 'He was here earlier?'

'Oh, let me check, come in.' We made our way to the sofa set when I noticed Veronica helped herself to the kitchen. I saw Kendall look back at her and smile. Then, he turned to me.

'I thought you were out?' He asked.

Normally, I would have told someone to mind their own business but he seemed too nice. I can't be rude. 'I...well...plans changed.' I felt my emotions welling up again. When he pointed that out, I realized I was shocked and lost between all the laughs Vers and I were having, to notice that piece of me was missing. I didn't even notice my expression changed where he would point it out. I tried to look away quickly just in case the tears runneth over, and also to avoid any questions he might have asked.

'Are you okay?'

Damn. 'Uh..yeah. Why?' I kept my head turned and scanned the other couch. I realized he was standing in the same spot

'You seem...less cheerful than usual?'

'You figured I'm forever cheerful within a week of knowing me?'

'Yeah, I'm good at reading people.'

'Well, that's nice.'

'See? Something's bothering you?'

'No, I'm okay Kendall.'

'No you're not.'

'Yes I am okay!!!!' I raised my voice a bit then bit my lip. I couldn't stop the tears from streaming down one drop at a time and it was too late to blink them back. Then, I could no longer see him clearly. I pressed my palms to my face and it was then I felt two stern arms wrap around my body. I took this time to not pull away, but press my face further into his chest. He was just a bit taller and he rest his head atop mine. We stayed like that for quite a while.

Had it been like five minutes? Either Veronica found her way back upstairs or hiding out in the kitchen to give me privacy.

I pulled my head away and felt as if I had just woken up. I took a look ahead of me and saw the wet stains on his light grey t-shirt currently. 'I'm sorry about that. I-'

He cut me off. 'It's okay.' He paused, I sniffled. 'I'll be there whenever you need me okay? Just please don't cry any more. Whatever it is, it's not worth it. Stop thinking about it.'

What he had just said reeled over in my mind. 'It's not worth it.'

*Kendall's POV*

I was calling Martha as I was on my way to Shailene's house to see the wrecked state she might be in. After I got Melanie to get at Andrew's house on time, I got ready for my next step.

One thing though, Martha was not supposed to be at their house tonight. I told her not tonight. She did not obey orders because I saw her getting into Mr. Haynesworth's van real quick. I noted mentally to deal with her later. What....was she actually planning to permanently become part of this family or something? Her purpose in this is to be a homewrecker. Lady did not obey orders. I would report that to Jared later. I knocked on the door and awaited Shay to answer.

But, a pretty red headed girl with a full lobe greeted me. There was a stapler in her hand. My quick glance at her hands accessed a position of attack. I'd question that later too.

Now, Shay didn't really look upset at first. When we were admist the chairs, she looked at me for a brief moment, than I saw her brow furrow a bit. Was she going to cry? After she barely shouted at me, I knew she was going to.

She did.

I hugged her comfortingly. High five to self. All I had to do was gain a level of trust now.

I could feel her tears soak my jersey but it felt soothing. I waited till she finally pulled away, wiping her eyes. Even though I already knew what went down earlier, I offered words of a man who wouldn't know. 'It's okay.' I paused and thought of a line that could make her have a little thought toward me. 'I'll be there whenever you need me okay? Just please don't cry any more. Whatever it is, it's not worth it. Stop thinking about it.'

First part of the plan was done. Drew was going to pay for his selfish thoughts of leaving me to suffer back at Jared's 'business'. Jared and our new step-mom had talked it over, since their own kind was concerned. He's even lucky he got a few more days to breathe without having another punishment session or questioning.

There was another knock at the door. I saw the red head glance at Shailene as if to ask permission to open it. I looked at Shay and she gestured to the stapler they left on the table from when I came in earlier. Well, I should have known that eventually he would have shown up here.

I saw the red head's hand press the stapler to connect the thin air. That could only mean that Andrew was at the door.
