Chapter 4- Revenge BeginsA Chapter by Yashoda*Shailene's POV* I made sure my father was asleep before I got upstairs an hour after, just to make sure he didn't run around the neighbourhood, probably with intentions of smashing every vehicle. So after a quick shower and long moments of smiling and remembering the day's events, I picked up my phone to call Andrew to ask if he got home safely, and to talk about his quick reaction to my father opening the door on us. But, he had beat me to it. I saw a text from him already. Feeling the butterflies brushing against my stomach just thinking about how perfect he was, I opened it. I instantly regretted it. 'I can't do this anymore. Please don't talk to me again.' What? Crying was the last thing on my mind. I think shock was inching through me slowly. Maybe it was a prank. Everything was okay. We were okay. I knew he was not okay today. Did I do something wrong? Did he like someone else? Was he afraid of my dad? I doubted that last thought. The first thing I did, I told my circle on our little Facebook groupchat. Mel had seen it. Veronica had seen it. I put the phone down before they could reply. Perhaps it was a dream. Perhaps he's testing me. If it was a test, it was a stupid one. I had no idea what I did. I had to be dreaming. I conversed with myself in my mind. It was so uncalled for. That was so immature. Even if the relationship was a problem, how dare he do it over a text message. My eyes stung slightly as they were brimmed with tears when I looked at my lit phone screen. Veronica. I answered it. 'Come outside, quick.' 'What?' It had only been ten minutes since I informed my clique and here was my badass rebel of a friend, outside my house. I tried to dry the lazy tears that refused to fall over and shrugged my hoodie on over my nightwear. When I got down and out of the house, I was grateful that she hadn't come knocking, because my father might have woken up. I ran across the grass to meet her amused expression. 'Get in.' I obeyed quickly, suddenly feeling a wave of enthusiasm wash over me. 'Where are you...we going?' She just smiled, her teeth sparkling along with her earlobe. 'Veronica answer me.' 'I won't tell you yet. Firstly, are you okay?' 'I guess, I don't think it processed yet...it has to be a joke.' 'Don't worry, you didn't need him anyway. Remember when you said you wanted to try things that you haven't done before?' I looked at her curiously and nodded. 'Well trust me when I say, you're gonna love this.' Just then, she pulled up in Andrew's yard. *5 minutes later* *Andrew's POV* I barely heard the whispers. I swear one voice said 'bury it in the backyard'. The lights came on. Then, it hit me...literally. The first one, square in the chest. Before I could react, the second object on my shoulder. I sat up immediately, holding my shoulder closer to my neck. 'What the-' I looked up and I saw Shailene, her hair up and jacket hugging her body, with her arms folded across from my bed, leaning on the wall. Not far from her, Veronica, our group warrior (the pirate), stood at my feet, playing with my baseball bat, which had my name engraved in the fine white ash wood, in her hands. After the first hit with the stapler from my desk, and the second with her shoe, I knew what was about to go down. 'Are you insane Pirate? What are you doing here? Shailene, love, what brings you into the charm of my presence?' I glanced at the window, there was no trace of the sun. What was the time? 'WHY ARE YOU ABUSING ME? Shay tell her to-' I saw Veronica swing the bat backwards. 'What is wrong with you?!' I shifted under Veronica's death glare (which I had no idea why I got it) to search for my phone. I had sworn I had rest it next to the bedlamp. 'Where is my phone?' 'Why would I know ?' Sassy. That was it. 'Listen to me you psychotic bi-' 'Andrew!' Shailene cut me off. She looked me in the eyes from where she was. 'What is---No Veroni--.' It all happened too quick. She struck my leg with the bat. This was insane. My inner violence stirred. My punishment memories were too close. 'Shay, your turn.' What? She was about to hand the bat over to Shay when I saw the horror that crossed her features. They began whispering among themselves. I held my head in my hands trying to process everything. Why was she hitting me? Why were they even in my house? I should probably run. Veronica left the room. Shay approached the bed and sat next to me. She spoke first. 'Can you at least tell me why?' 'Before we proceed, can you at least tell me why you were witnessing my murder?' I rubbed right above my knee where Pirate struck. Her eyes looked down at her knees. 'You're making me feel so stupid Andrew. You know what,' she was about to get up from the bed. 'I don't even know why I'm here. If I wasn't worth your time, you could have just told me.' I pulled her back down on the bed. 'What are you talking about?' She looked me dead in the eye, a glint of humor I guess, and I could see the tears forming. 'You said you didn't want me to talk to you again.I'm sorry I'm not what you wanted.' 'I never said that...Shay, I would never say something like that to you...when did I say that?' When did I say that? 'You're not the person I thought you were.' She had no idea how true that statement was. 'Could you just stop with the indirect speeches and tell me what's on your mind?' 'You broke up with me dummy!' 'I did?' With that, her tears runneth over. I was beyond surprised. I mean, Kendall mentioned it when he was in my car, but, I never did. Was it a sign? That was impossible, I never said anything to her since I left her house. Did Kendall do anything to her? 'Shay, calm down...I did not. If this is a prank, stop it please, you're scaring me.' 'Yes you did! Andrew Broker, I am not playing games with you.' Her voice was hoarse and she showed me her phone, where, I had sent her a message saying that I can't with her anymore. I would never say something like that to her, especially on her birthday. 'I'm serious Shay, I didn't. I don't even know where my phone is.' I searched around the sheets, which she looked at me curiously, then shifted her gaze to the door. I turned her face toward mine. 'Look at me, in my eyes, Shailene I would never do that to you. I don't even know where my phone is. Believe me.' 'Okay.' She buried her head into my neck and we just stayed there in silence. 'This doesn't make sense.' She raised up. 'Where's your phone?' 'I honestly have no idea.' I looked at her, clueless. I decided that she was the only person I trusted, so I should tell her my story..later. Then, she might hate me for not telling her earlier or pity me. I would hate that. Then, things might not end so well. We sat, cuddled in silence for a while. *****About 10 minutes after, Shay texted Veronica saying that they would talk tomorrow, and that she was staying with Andrew***** *Still Andrew's POV* 'You okay now?' I asked Shay. 'I guess you're happy because you didn't kill me after all. Although, it still hurts.' I rubbed over my knee where Veronica had hit. 'I'm sorry I didn't stop her. I thought you would have deserved it, but then I was going to stop her because I didn't want her to go to jail.' She placed her hand on the bruise. 'Really Shay? That's the only reason why you didn't stop her?' I faked shock. She raised and kissed me on the cheek. 'I'm sure.' She smiled. I love that smile. It made me feel as if I could travel to heaven and back just by the thought of her being happy around me. 'It's late...let's go somewhere.' 'It's almost midnight,' I said checking her phone and I deleted that hurtful message while I was at it. 'Where do you want to go?' 'Can we go to the beach, for a walk, then we could go take a midnight swim...in the moonlight...' She trailed off, trailing her fingers on my chest. It did not distract me on my flashbacks of the reasons why I never went around water with Shailene. I couldn't help it. I felt as if I was drowning in my mind and Shay was the raft was right next to me, but it was almost as if I wanted the raft to just go away. Everything came rushing back. At that point, I even knew that Kendall had my phone. It was not over. They were coming to get me. Revenge. Then, I decided to tell her. 'Are you okay?' I heard her ask, when I realized I had my head in my hands. 'Shay...' I was having doubts, but not telling her would be unfair. 'It's okay, I'm sorry. We don't have to go.' 'It's not that..I-' I didn't know how to say it, so, I pulled my vest over my head, revealing the deep, dark blemishes on my back that 'decored' my once fair skin. © 2015 Yashoda |
