The Pessimist's FlightA Poem by Cheshire CatThe road that is lit, dimly, by the lampposts of pessimism; a light that, in lieu of guiding one away from the darkness, pushes one deeper into the abyss of doubt, sorrow, and crippling apprehension.
There sits a bird atop a brook
He sees more than all below Ardent, yet poise; wise as a rook His story, narrated like a book Though read by none, should anyone know The legacy this bird shalt sow? Still sits this bird atop the brook Now pondering his way of flight On felling unborn hope he uncovers An obligation that stubbornly towers Before fear set, he inked his plight But with him, fear; not hope, he took Thus sits no bird atop the brook The fledgling she hearthed, the hopes they birthed Have rot and crumbled just the same Life was but a gamble; a game Ah, the gemstone they unearthed Has retreated to its nook Yet, babbles forth, this omniscient brook The pessimist's flight, a wayward one. Sans direction; sans hope; sans meaning One can only aim to falter © 2023 Cheshire CatAuthor's Note
