InvasionA Poem by Paul PruettThis has been brewing, germinating in my mind for a while. I have tried several times to get this feeling down on paper. I think I succeeded. Hope so.
Dark thoughts creep in.
Thoughts of loneliness and loss.
There is no safety net.
No shelter deep in the night.
You are nowhere to be found.
Far away in a distant land.
Lost to me in the arms of another.
Or never, never to have come.
So creep in, darkness.
Come as you will.
Sapping my dreams, desires and will to move on.
Come as you will.
As the chill of night comes,
So do you.
Whispering in my ear tales of failure.
Of loss
Tales of time slipping away into nothing.
I try to shut my mind.
Seal away my soul.
Press my hands o’er my ears.
But to no avail.
Your seeds are everywhere in my flesh.
Tearing away at my desire to move on.
There is no shelter from such evil.
And no cure.
My simple dreams are no match.
Fantasies that come are so easily dismissed.
Any shred of hope whisked away.
So come darkness, my old friend.
I give no more challenge to your ways.
My defenses are gone.
All resistance is not more.
