So Now Comes the Autumn

So Now Comes the Autumn

A Poem by Paul Pruett

The scent now flows on the breeze.
Long are the orange rays of the sun.
Shivering, wanting rest are the leaves on high.
So comes now the autumn.

There is a morning chill, on the wings of a mist.
Leaving only with protest by day’s noon.
The late day heat has power, but falters quick.
So comes now the autumn.

O so creaking now are my bones.
Strong tho my will, the physical wanes.
Harder and harder still I strive, gaining less ground.
So come now the autumn.

Gone is the spring, blossoms no more line my world.
Summer’s blaze has left its heat but faded to dusk.
Two seasons of life are left to live.
Winter to be the final.
So now comes the autumn.

This is one of the best poems I've read in a while. Autumn is my favorite time of year, and you ever so poetically describe its impending arrival. Excellent!
