A Man Apart

A Man Apart

A Poem by Paul Pruett

I’ve too long lived with my grief.

Too long with a broken heart.

Too long in a fruitless search.

For far too long have tears stain my face.

For far too long has my bed remained cold.

My hand un-held.

My lips un-kissed.

I have paid for my sins.

A million times and over again.

I’ve asked to love you again but your response so quiet.

The silence deafens me.

How long is my sentence?

Can you not take down the massive wall built keeping us apart.

Your answer comes not.

And yet I wait.

And still I pray.

But both you and God are silent.
