Ghosts and Fog

Ghosts and Fog

A Poem by Paul Pruett

Back, back, back through the sands of time.

To that moment when we were one, you and I.

Back there where our love blossomed.

To where I would never let you go.

Not here, this foolish shell, full of sadness and loss.

Back where I held you in my arms and loved you.

I lie in my cold lonely bed and curse that young fool.

Wishing I could impart upon him my wisdom.

Knowing what it was to have you and then to lose you.

Dear God, the tears burn for you and continue to do so.

Dear God, if only.

Dear God, if only.

Dear God.

I see your face in my dreams.

Hear your name upon the wind.

Your touch in the velvet of a rose.

If only.

Ouch! You sure know how to resurrect old memories with accompanying pain. This is some very strong writing, Paul.
