Mad Hatter

Mad Hatter

A Poem by Yahallo
"

What are you hiding?

"
She wears a mad hat

long

black

scary

she wears a mad hat

along with

a white dress

a pressed smile

a shy blush

she will glance at

you

and mutter to

you

and out of blue

hold on to her mad hat

it moves

something,

something must be in

it

i swear i'm not the mad one

she excuses herself

and runs off

never

letting go of the

mad hat

her footsteps

carved

into the mud

her breath

life to the birds

laughing unreasonably, now she is

as she takes

that horrible thing

off of her charcoal hair

reaching her tiny waist

throws it away

as if it's cursed

crimson red slips

down her forehead

a hundred ravens

dancing around the

mad hat

on a wooden altar

she screams into the

night

like a wolf

a hundred and one ravens

breathing in

her rapid

heartbeat

This turned out quite a bit different than anyone could possibly imagine! I have a “mad hatter” hat which I love, but it’s never caused such a stir as all this! *wink! wink!* I love your blend of fun & freaky aspects to describe this mysterious hat-donning lady. Not sure what the hundred-and-one ravens symbolize, but I love the way your poem culminates with such a dynamic sensory surprise! Now I want to write a poem about one of my own crazy hats! I could feel the madness in this, which was emphasized by the way you thoughtfully structured the poem. The imagery is great, especially here: "crimson red slips/down her forehead/a hundred ravens/dancing around the/mad hat". Well written.
