You can lose a friend for many different reasons.

Today I lost a friend
no, they didn't die
yes, it's not right to feel this bad
perhaps they were not my friend at all

Today I lost a friend
how does it feel you may ask
defeated, lonely, old
that's how I feel today

Today I lost a friend
sun is hiding behind gray clouds
the same way my heartache's hiding behind my
smile
we were friends because we shared the same place

Today I lost a friend
feeling raindrops on my skin hurt
breathing the fresh air froze my lungs
that's why I was speechless today and not because
of them

Today I lost a friend
it hurt yesterday and today and tomorrow
shaky fingers take the pen and free the sorrow
but a part of it will always be with me

Today I lost a friend
they have to move on and go
but I have to stay here in a buzzing crowd
watching the flashback of our memories

Today I lost a friend
that I won't ever forget
because today I didn't just lose a friend
I also lost a bit of myself
