DefectorA Poem by Y. CountsI'm supposed to feel connected, while I glide along in my sterile space pod, somehow alike with the others who amass and dwell within this beating commune of souls. We all bring forth our young. We all pay the taxman with his drooly grin. But my thoughts shift and stray from the mundane when some other light wants to breakthrough and turn this inside out, brilliant. Its not a popular thinking- Its not in my demographic- And its not patriotic. Its not even in line with this very real daily grind. But it speaks to the defector in me and rings a bit more true then the faces behind the glass that circle me, shadowed. Let them win at their own game, they can have their little slice. I'll slip past and disappear into a crack between worlds for now.
