"Affect. Inflict. Effect."

"Affect. Inflict. Effect."

A Poem by Sarah Ahmed

The echoes and powers of warnings in words
The world is drowning as high as the birds
My greed will now rise, and leave its disguise
I care for none other till seen with my eyes

The ruins of existence, resistance till death
When all then must gasp, grasp one last breath
When lies our depart, from heart I'll believe
A subconscious stab, I often receive

Construction of feel, the act of advance
The minds will be open, and kill for the chance
And all those who say, you hear with your ear
You speak with your mouth, are far from the clear

Be deaf to the sounds, for words should be seen
Pitiful as all the sorrowful clean
The hour of destruction is best left to be
Till affect will inflict an effect on me

Words are warnings seen deep within our subconscious mind. If our conscious mind ignores these warnings, that won't stop an inevitable affect, a seed of our destruction, from inflicting its effect. I especially enjoyed the two lines:

"When lies all depart from heart I'll believe
A subconscious stab, I often receive"
