The beginning of the end

The beginning of the end

A Chapter by Elizabeth Kerns

The next day I woke up safe in Starks arms. It seemed like all of us were high on energy drinks that morning, until we turned on the news. . . People all across the country have been disappearing and showing up dead or having being attacked and bitten. They suspect it's some kind of cult, but we know better. It's vampires. They're being reckless. They don't care if they are discoved, in fact I think they want to be. We can't let that happen. . . Can we do it ? Can we actually save the entire human population ?
As we sit there and think about what we just heard, I begin to wonder. "What if the vampires aren't all bad ?"
"What do you mean ?", Ollie was the first to ask what was on everyone's mind.
"Well, just like humans, maybe they're are good and bad vampires ? I mean how could you ever hear about the good ones ? All of these attacks make us believe they are evil creatures."
This time stark was the one to speak up, "My family has been killing for a very long time, don't you think we would have seen a 'good' one yet ?"
"Maybe, maybe not. When you kill one do you hesitate ?"
"No, of course not. But-"
"But nothing. You automatically assume they have to be evil."
"Fine, lets say your right, and some are good. How does that help us ?"
"Well, maybe they could help us."
"I hope for all of our sakes your right. I'll take the risk, the next vampire we see I'll try to talk to it. If it does not attack us, we will not attack it."
We were out all day. We kept our eyes open wide, searching for a vampire that was alone. We didn't have any luck, until around eleven that night. If only I had realized that it was a new moon. . . I'll never forgive myself for that night. The vampire approached but did not attack. Stark handed Brandon his bag, they decided earlier that if anything went wrong he should get us all our of there.
Stark began walking up to him slowly with his arms raised. "This may sound a bit cliche but we come in peace."
"Either this is a trap or your a fool."
"Neither actually. I want to talk to you about all of the attacks and what you think of it."
"I can't talk about it." He started glancing around, like he was nervous.
"Please. We only have a few questions."
"No. . . You don't understand, we will both die if this conversation proceeds."
"Just one question and we will go."
"Fine, but ask quickly." This time he was clearly looking everywhere. I a,most said we should all get out of here when it happened.
"Why is it happ-" And it was over. The vampire was dead.
And then Stark was lying on the pavement. . . No he couldn't be. . . I was there before I realized I had even moved. He was barely breathing but when I turned his head, I saw it. There were bite marks on his neck. . .
