Joel sat down on his driveway and waited for Sanger to come pick him up for school. He had gotten up extra early that morning because his next door neighbor had gone out of town and he had to feed their pets. He fed his own cat and ended up on the driveway. His cell rang three minutes later.

“Hello?”

“Hey, Jaws, has Sanger picked you up yet?” Ella asked him from the other side of the line.

“No, why?”

“Well, tell him that I’m sick and I’m not going to school.” she replied.

“What are you sick with?”

“Oh, nothing just a cold.” she replied sneezing four times before saying goodbye and hanging up. Sanger’s car pulled into the driveway and Joel got inside.

“Ella’s sick.” Joel explained to Sanger as they pulled out and made their way to school.

At lunch Sanger, Evan, Joel, and Ray sat in silence at their table. They just ate and every once in a while they would glance at each other. Mandy, who was sitting in the next table over, was giving Ray dirty looks while Serena kept nudging her to stop. Laurie kept looking at Ray too but Ray didn’t seem to notice.

“Why do they keep looking at you?” Evan asked Ray.

“I don’t know, why don’t you find out from your girlfriend she’s the one giving me dirty looks.” he suggested sipping his water.

Later that day Evan decided to go over to Mandy’s and have dinner with her while her parents were out of town on business.

“So, why are your parents gone so often?” Evan asked walking over and taking the plate that Mandy was holding out to him.

“Well, they are both head of some company and it requires them to go to Illinois a lot.” she replied sitting down with Evan on the couch.

They both finished up their dinner and decided to sit on the couch and watch the rest of Deal or No Deal.

“I hate this show.” Evan said after three minutes of watching it.

“Good me too.” she said pulling him in for a passionate kiss.

Sanger also decided to watch TV with his girlfriend. They sat on the couch wrapped in each other’s arms watching Star Wars. Sanger kept trying to get up to get a snack but every time he attempted Serena pulled him down so he ended up falling asleep. It was like watching a movie with a three year old kid only worse. The thing about Sanger is that he could never be quiet he always had to be doing something. He was restless and exhausting, but Serena knew that under all that was a quiet mature boy that didn’t come out much.

Joel decided on hanging out with Ella at her house. He walked up to her driveway and found the spare key under the statue of a rabbit in her front yard. He really didn’t want to bother her if she was asleep. He made his way up to her room and stopped at the doorway to see her getting ready to go out somewhere. She was straightening her hair and Joel could see her doing so in the mirror in her room. Ella coughed a bit and then placed a cough drop in her mouth and continued straightening her hair.

“Knock, knock.” Joel finally said walking into her room.

“Whose there.” she called from the bathroom.

“Your hero.” Joel said showing her the can of Rockstar that he had brought her.

“I would hug you right now but I’m all germy.” she said grabbing the Rockstar and opening it.

“So, where are you off to?” Joel asked her.

“Nowhere, I got bored so I decided to straighten out my hair.”

“Bull, you where going somewhere.” Joel said.

“Fine, you caught me. My dad wanted me to go out to dinner with him even though I’m sick. It’s just that I don’t get to see him often and I really want to.” she said going into a coughing fit.

“You really don’t sound good Ella you should stay home.” he said feeling her forehead to see if she had a temperature.

“I want to go.” she said.

“Alright, but when you get home call me and I’ll bring over some vegetable noodle soup since you’ve gone veggie on us.” he replied hugging her and walking out the door.

The next day Ella wasn’t at school either. Turns out that she had caught Strep throat and really needed to stay home.

“Ella, my darling, how are you feeling?” Sanger said jumping on top of her bed.

“Not so good but I’ll live. I’m contagious so you guys should go.” she replied picking up the pile of homework they had brought and starting on it.

“Well, you have a special visitor.” Evan said walking out of the room and allowing Ray to walk in.

“I’m contagious.” she said coughing on him.

“Ella, come on.” Ray said.

“I gave you a second chance and you threw it back in my face and all you can say is ‘Ella come on.”!” she shouted at him.

“Well, I really don’t know what to say.” he said looking down at his shoes.

“You know what really gets to me is how you can seem to have a pretty good long lasting relationship with everyone else but me.” she continued.

“Yeah, I know.” he replied.

“Everyone thinks that we should be together but I see right through you.” she said looking up at him.

“I wish that I was as invisible as you make me feel right now.” he replied.

“Goodbye and goodnight.” she said pushing him out the door and closing it.

Ella slumped down in her chair and turned on her stereo she had to block out her mind at this moment so she sung along with the song.

“And he can’t understand how everyone goes on breathing when true love ends.”

Alone and with a pile of school work in front of her Ella finished up everything in record time and escaped to the comfort of her pillow and sheets. She inhaled the smell and to her dismay they smelled of none other than Ray.

Upset and hurt Ray stood outside in Ella’s driveway and waited. He waited for her to come outside and take him back. He knew all too well that that was never going to happen. So he finally left and walked back to his own house. Opening the door to find an empty home he made a dash for the liquor cabinet and opened a bottle. Climbing up to his room he locked the door and downed the rest of the toxic liquid leaving him passed out on his bathroom floor.

Evan, Sanger, and Joel were all sleeping over at Evan’s house and causing mayhem where ever they went. They went to the Dinner Diner and ordered as much food as they could eat and arrived back at Evan’s house to finish off the night playing video games.

“I’m hungry.” Sanger said in the middle of the game.

“If you keep eating like that you’ll blow up like a balloon.” Evan said laughing at Sanger’s scared face.

“I always wondered why you were so skinny.” Joel replied messing up Sanger’s hair. He just sat there in shock.

“Well, there’s no need to be anorexic.” Evan persisted.

“So what do I do eat or don’t eat?” Sanger asked confused.

“Don’t eat right now, we just had food.” Joel said.

“This is a tough decision; I should call Serena and find out.” Sanger called Serena who told him exactly what Joel had. Disappointed Sanger hung up the phone and pouted at his friends’ food intervention.

“You know Serena is the longest relationship that you have ever had, SG.” Evan stated.

“Yeah, I wonder why she hasn’t broken up with him yet.” Joel joked.

“She’s crazy about me.” Sanger smiled.

“Well, we know you you’re not going to stay with her forever. It’s like Rose, you swore you were in love with her but in about two months you were over her and moving on to Serena.” Evan explained folding out a blanket on the floor to sleep on.

“I don’t know guys, at the moment I’m happy but I get what your saying.” the serious Sanger replied sighing and turning off the lights so they could wake up for the Saturday morning.

Tired and sick as a dog, Ella decided that she had the solution to all her problems. Well, most of them anyway. She quickly got dressed and made her way out of the house at exactly 10:30 in the morning.

She hugged her jacket closer as she made her way up Ray’s driveway. Knocking on the door and being let in by the maid she slowly made her way up the stairs and into his room. She stopped in front of his door and knock three times. No one answered the door so she found the spare key on the top of the doorway and unlocked his room. Putting the key back where she found it she walked into the room quietly. She saw no sign of Ray anywhere. He wasn’t near the bed or in the bathroom. Where could he be? She walked into the bathroom and saw a bottle of nearly empty vodka on the ground. Placing it back on the floor she began to hear noises indicating that someone was coming into the room. She heard a guy’s voice and a girl’s voice.

Laughter filled the room as Ray and Laurie entered the room together. They both sat down on the bed and turned on the TV.

“Ella loves this show.” Ray said pointing at the screen.

“Can we not talk about Ella for once?” she said kissing him on the lips. Ella watched from behind the closet doors. A million things were going through her mind at this moment. Was it a good thing that she was the only thing that he could talk about? Or was it a bad thing because he was now kissing another girl? She just watched in horror as innocent kissing turned into something even more sensual.
