Tomorrow was the big day. It was finally here. School was way too long for the band. And the night was probably going to be sleepless. They decided to sleep over at Joel’s house. Sanger brought his puppy, Chicken Caboodles.

“You named your dog Chicken Caboodles?” Ray asked his weird friend.

“Why yes I did.” he relied.

“I like it.” Ella laughed.

“Well of course you like it.” Joel said rolling his eyes. Ella remembered the video that they watched about chicken caboodles. Sanger vowed that he would name his pet that.

They all decided to watch a movie and attempt to sleep. They all weren’t even able to concentrate on the movie so they decided to play tag. They ran around and began to become out breathe. They finally down feel asleep.

The next morning all them were pumped. Sanger and Ella couldn’t calm down so Ray told them they had to run a mile before they could eat breakfast. They went outside and ran around the block before coming inside to eat waffles and strawberries.

“I’m so excited!” Ella squealed for the fiftieth time.

“We got that.” Joel said finishing up his breakfast.

They all loaded the equipment into the car and began the hour route to the auditions.  As you can imagine the car ride was horrific. Sanger made a mess of the car with cheerios and Ella couldn’t stop jumping up and down. In the other car Evan and Joel were sitting in silence. They were all nervous this was a chance that could either make or break them.

When they finally arrived they were allowed to sign in and set up. In thirty minutes the judges filed into the room and took a seat.

“We can do this guys.” Ella reassured them.

“Hey, we’re Neon Lights.” Sanger said into the microphone. He could see some of the judges writing down something on a paper. They began to play their songs. The whole time they were nervous and anxious. When they finished the judges clapped and they knew that they had done a good job.

“I think we did awesome.” Joel said smiling. He put his drum sticks in his back pocket.

“Yep, I think we did swell.” Ella said putting her bass in the case. They all shuffled out of the room and met with Ray outside.

“We rocked.” Sanger said.

“I knew you would.” Ray smiled and led them to the car.

“So how much longer do we have stay?” Ella asked.

“Until the auditions are over I would say an hour or two.” Ray said answering the question.

“I’m hungry, I saw a Sonic across the road so I’m going to go get some food.” Evan said.

“I’ll come with you.” Joel said.

“Me too.” Sanger said climbing into the car.

Ella and Ray stood there in silence. They had both forgotten what had happened between them and it was all coming back to them. Ray finally decided to speak up.

“Hayley said that you were dating Joel.”

“No, I’m not. First off I would never date a bandy and you know that.” she replied.

“Oh, okay. I was just wondering.”

“Yeah.” she said smiling. “You’re still with Hayley.”

“I’m still with Hayley.” he repeated.

“I think we’ve been set up.” Ella said laughing.

“I think you’re right. But, we’re still cool right?”

“Yeah, we are.” Ella said smiling up at him. She shook his hand.

“When you get all rich and famous remember me, kay kid?”

“I won’t have to remember you. You’ll be standing right next to me the whole time.” she said. “You’re going to be our manager no matter what.”

Evan returned with boys and food. Sophomore was at Sonic so he picked them up.

“Look what he brought!” Sanger said getting out of the car.

“Guys, I’m drowning in a sea of testosterone.” Ella laughed looking around at all the guys.

“I would have thought that you would have liked being around us guys.” Matt said.

“I do, but those guys are creepy.” she said pointing over to some guys who were waving at her.

The group talked for about an hour and the auditions were still not done. They had nothing to do after that. They waited and talked to the other bands that were there. Finally there was an announcement that the judges had made their decision. They would have to go home and wait for a letter telling them that they made it.

“Well, at least we met some pretty cool people.” Ella suggested as they came home.

After a long day of music Ella walked into her bathroom. She put in The Academy Is… and started a bubble bath. She let the music take her away as she climbed in and closed her eyes.

Evan on the other hand decided to call Mandy. They talked for about an hour then Evan decided to take a nap.

Joel got home and decided to eat some food because he was hungry. His dad wasn’t there, but there was a note on the kitchen table.

Going on a business trip. See you in a week. Dad.

Sanger decided it would be a good idea to get some sleep. He laid down on his bed and fell asleep for the rest of the night.

Ray couldn’t sleep, he couldn’t think. He just sat there in his room. He had no idea why either. He wasn’t happy nor was he sad. He had no explanation to how he felt. He was filled with remorse and he began to question his decision.

There was song stuck in his head at the moment. It was one of Ella’s. It was called a Wound worth Letting Bleed.

Come on, come on, let’s go crashing,

Straight into love while I’m asking

Will you spiral down with me?

That line kept playing in his head. He wondered did she ever write any songs about him.

Why don’t you see that I forgot,

Why can’t we be the way we used to be,

I threw us away and now what do I have to say but I’m sorry, I’m sorry.

Don’t worry I’ll never be okay.

He had to do something about it. It wasn’t worth letting bleed. The first thing he did was make a call. Then leave the house.

Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on lets go crashing.

He drove ten minutes to his final destination. He ran inside the house and up the stairs.

Will you spiral down with me?

He opened the door and saw Ella sleeping on her bed. She looked very peaceful. Ray wasn’t sure why he had come if he was crazy or borderline insane. He felt himself touch Ella to wake her up. She stirred at first but then opened her eyes.

“Ray? What do you want? Did something happen?” she asked sitting up.

“No, I just, I, I broke up with Hayley.” he blurted out.

“I’m sorry it didn’t work out, Ray.”

“No, you’re not.”

“You’re right I’m not.” she said smiling.

“So…” Ray said.

“So…” Ella repeated.

“I tried to let this feeling go, but trying is useless you know.” Ray sang.

“I had to tell you how I feel after all these years.” she finished.

“That was probably one of the best songs you wrote because it describes exactly how I feel.”

“What can I say I aim to please.” she said smiling.

“You’re still with Matt.” Ray said.

“I’m still with Matt.” she repeated.
