Ella and Joel were at lunch waiting for Sanger and Evan to show up.

“Evan has a hott date today.” said Ella sipping her chocolate milk.

“Wait, doesn’t he have a girlfriend?”

“Yeah! He does! This is bad. Evan’s not the cheating type!” Ella said turning around to find Evan standing right behind her.

“I know I said yes to that date but I’m going to tell her that I already have a girlfriend and that we can only be friends. You guys have to have a little more faith in me.” he said sitting down and eating his spaghetti.

“Ray! Get your bootie over here!” called Sanger.

“Hey guys!” said Ray sitting down next to Ella.

“Evan’s cheating on his girlfriend.” said Sanger playfully.

“Am not!” pouted Evan.

“Heh, who is she?” said Ray stealing a sip of Ella’s chocolate milk.

“Some girl named Megan.” he said.

“My cousin’s name is Megan and she’s our age. Dude, you might go out with my cousin!” he said.

The bell rang shortly and Sanger and Ray went to gym class. Sanger once again walked into the locker room and got terrorized by Brock.

“Ella’s gonna kick your butt.” said Sanger.

“Aw, having your little girlfriend stick up for you that’s sweet.” said Brock laughing.

“I’m not his girlfriend, I’m his best friend.” said Ella punching Brock in the nose.

“Ella, what do you think you’re doing in the boy’s locker room.” said Ray whispering.

“Making sure SG was Okay, now I have to get to art.” Ella ran out of the locker room and went straight to art.

Ella enjoyed art. It helped her express herself. Today they were working on abstract things. Ella’s assignment was to make an abstract painting of her and her friends. This wasn’t going to be too hard.

Joel was in music or band. He played the drums there. It gave him a good practice. He had band Tuesday and Thursdays and drama the rest of the week with Ella.

Evan had Study Hall. He wasn’t too good at finishing his homework on time so he took up Study Hall so he could practice with the band and not have to stay up late.

After classes were finished and everyone had gathered near Evan’s car was when the real trouble began.

“Are you sure it won’t start.” said Joel lifting up the hood.

“Yeah, I tried several times and the stupid thing won’t start.” said Evan pacing back and forth.

“I’m gonna go find Ray maybe he can help.” said Sanger racing off to find Ray.

Unfortunately Ray was in the middle of something with Brock and Sanger had just stepped into it.

“Where’s your little girlfriend.” said Brock approaching him. Sanger looked down to see Ray sitting against the wall with a blood nose.

“Um…she…I have to…Ray!” screamed Sanger as Brock punched him twice.

“That’s for having your little girlfriend ruin my face.” said Brock walking away.

“Wow, I just got beat up.”

“You’re hopeless.” said Ray.

“Evan’s car won’t start so we were wondering if you would take a look.” said Sanger attempting to stand up.

“I would but I think he broke my ribs.” said Ray clutching his side.

“How about we help each other out to the car.”

“Kay.” said Ray leaning on Sanger as both of them stood up and began walking to the car.

“What happened!” said Ella running over to them as they walked out into the parking lot.

“I think we just got attacked.” said Sanger trying to stay balanced while supporting Ray.

“Did Brock do this because if he did I’m gonna kick his…”

“Fixed!” said Evan, “the car is fixed. We can go home.”

“Can you take me to the hospital?” said Ray.

“Fine, to the hospital!” said Evan helping Sanger and Ray into the car.

Ella sat on the left with Ray in the middle and Sanger on the other side. Joel and Evan where up front discussing something about skateboarding.

“So why did you get beat up?” Ella said turning to Ray. He had his eyes closed.

“He wanted my lunch money.” he said jokingly.

“Seriously though, I mean I knew he hated Sanger but how did you get dragged into it.”

“I don’t know. I guess I just said something that pissed him off that’s all.” said Ray closing his eyes again.

Evan stopped at a stoplight. He looked over to side only to see Brock and some of his other friends in the car next to his. The light turned green, Brock swerved, and they crashed into a pole.

Joel, Ella, Ray, and Sanger got rushed to the emergency room. Evan had lucked out and had not gotten anything but a minor scrape. Brock and some of his friends where in the hospital as well.

“Evan, sweetie, you can go in and see Joel and Ella now.” said his mother sympathetically.

Evan walked into the room where Joel and Ella were. He looked at them; they were both asleep and pretty beat up. Ella had some stitches on the side of her head and Joel’s face was bruised. Evan  thought if they looked this bad then imagine how bad Sanger and Ray looked. He sat down in a chair in between the two beds and slowly drifted to sleep.

“Evan! Wake up!” said Ella.

“What, why?” whined Evan with his eyes still closed.

“Because, hospital food sucks and I need you to go to McDonalds and get me a vanilla milkshake.”

“Oh, and I want an apple pie.” said Joel.

“Why are you eating hospital food?” said Evan still with his eyes closed.

“Because we’re in a hospital? I think maybe you should get your head checked out.” Evan opened his eyes and it all came back to him.

“Oh right. I’ll go check on Ray and SG first.” said Evan getting up and heading out the door.

“Hey, mom, do you know where Sanger and Ray are?” Evan said catching up to his mother.

“Room 213, I’m in a hurry anything else that you need?” she said.

“A hug.” said Evan innocently.

“I think I’ll have to take a rain check old man dying.” she said running off.

“Meanie.” Evan muttered as he went to search for room 213.

“Evan, I’m alive, I could have died!” said Sanger jumping out of the bed and hugging him.

“Whoa, Sanger, you have to stay in that bed until they release you.” said Evan walking over to Ray.

“Hey, buddy.” said Ray weakly.

“So what’s wrong with you?” said Evan.

“Well, Brock didn’t break my rib but he fractured it.” said Ray.

“Ouch, well, I have to go get some food. Ella’s been whining about the dumb hospital food.”

“How is Ella?” asked Ray.

“Way better than you.” said Evan walking out of the room.

In a couple of days Ray was released and able to join his friends at school. The others had gotten released before him. Brock was suspended for exhibiting “bully” behavior.

It was after school that they had gotten to spend the most time with each other doing none other than make up work.

“I hate missing school because now I have all this work on top of my usual work!” whined Ella.

“Hey, I was out for four days so I have even more work than you so shut up.” said Ray pushing her off the bed.

“Hey, not nice.” said Ella as she got up and brushed herself off.

“Okay, lovebirds, shut up.” said Joel. Ella blushed a little and then went back to doing her work. A couple minutes later Evan cell started to ring.

“Hello…Oh, hey, Megan.” Evan said smiling. “Sure, I’ll see you in a sec.” Evan jumped off the bed and grabbed his hoodie.

“Where are you off to?” said Joel.

“My long awaited date.” said Evan walking out the door and into his parent’s car.

“Doesn’t he have a girlfriend.” said Ella.

“You asked the same question last time.” said Joel glaring at her.

“Fine, you losers have fun studying while I watch a movie.” said Ella getting up and walking over to her TV.

“What movies do you have?” asked Ray closing his book.

“Scary movies.” Ella and Joel said grinning.

“Did I ever mention that I don’t do good with scary movies?” said Ray nervously.

“Don’t worry.” said Ella putting in the movie and stepping over Sanger’s sleeping body. He had passed out on top of his homework. Ella sat by Ray and began to watch the movie.

Evan was at a small diner with Megan. He ordered a chocolate milkshake while she ordered a strawberry malt.

“What’s the difference between a malt and a milkshake?” Evan asked.

“I have no clue, but they’re the same in my book.” she said laughing.

“Well we’ve spent at least two hours talking so want to do some walking?” said Evan.

“That was probably the cheesiest thing I have ever heard.” said Megan grabbing his hand and walking out of the diner. They walked around the block hand in hand until they finally stopped in front of Megan’s car.

“So I think we should get home.” she said after breaking the comfortable silence.

“Yeah, I have a lot of make up work to do. Before I go I really should tell you that I…” Evan was cut off by Megan’s lips crashing into his.

“Goodnight.” she said getting into the car and rolling down the window. “I’ll call you later.” and with that she sped off leaving Evan frozen in his spot.

“This isn’t good.” he said recalling what Ella had said about him not being the cheating type.

Meanwhile, Ella, Ray, and Joel were all watching the movie still.

“Ah!” screamed Ray hugging Ella extremely tightly.

“Ray, unable to breathe.” she squeaked out.

“Sorry, but I warned you. Don’t go in there, don’t. Why do they always go in there?” said Ray jumping into the air and landing on top of Sanger.

“Ah! What the heck Ray!” said Sanger waking up.

“Sorry, the scary man scared me.” said Ray mimicking a little kid.

“Guys, I’m going home.” said Sanger getting up and leaving.

“He’s moody.” said Ray redeeming his spot in between Joel and Ella.
