Sophomores and Juniors

Ella woke up to the sound of her alarm. It was the first day of school and Ella wasn’t too excited. She had had one of the most amazing summers. She got to practice with her band everyday and they were almost good enough to start playing shows.

“Ugh, school.” muttered Ella as she rolled out of bed. She made her way slowly to her bathroom. She looked in the mirror and saw her crazy looking complexion. She hadn’t had time to wash off her make-up so it was smudged on her face. Her hair was a mess and she was still wearing the clothes from last night.

Last night was probably as fun as it got. Ella, Evan, Joel, and Sanger all went to a party where they got to play. They rocked out until 1 Am and then afterwards went to Sonic to grab a bite to eat. They pretty much stayed up all night. Ella had probably only gotten like two hours of sleep that night.

After she washed her face, Ella reapplied her eyeliner. She then continued on with her morning routine.

“Morning.” said Ella’s mother.

“Morning.” she replied back. Grabbing her book bag and a poptart, Ella made her way to Joel’s house.

Joel had always lived pretty close to Ella. When she was little she remembered bumping into him a couple times but they were never great friends until now. Joel was like Ella’s twin. He got her in a way no one else could. She spent most of her time at his house, and they did everything together. They had only known each other for a year and they were already like family.

“Jaws, I’m entering your house.” said Ella opening the door. There was no reply. It was quiet, too quiet.

Ella walked into the kitchen and poured herself a cup of the already made coffee on the counter. Joel’s dad had already left for work, so he was alone in the house. Ella finished her poptart and ran into Joel’s room only to see him still sleeping. Ella jumped on the bed causing Joel to groan.

“Wake up! Come on if I have to go to jail then you do too.” said Ella referring to school as jail.

“No, sleep!” said Joel annoyed at how obnoxious Ella was being.

“Please, for me?” Ella pouted.

“Fine, but only if I get a Rockstar before we get to school.” Joel got up and walked into the bathroom to get ready leaving Ella alone in his room to catch up on a bit of sleep herself. “Hey, if I have to get up and stay awake so do you.” said Joel shaking her when he got out of the restroom.

“Hey, shouldn’t Sanger and Evan be here by now?” said Ella walking out to the driveway to see if they had made it.

“Nope, they’ll be late, like always. Which means we’ll also be late my dear.” said Joel grabbing a bowl of cereal.

“I don’t wanna be late.” Ella whined.

“Eh, you can’t stay a goody-goody forever.” said Joel washing the bowl and picking up the phone. “Maybe I should call and find out where they are?” Joel suggested dialing the number.

Ella walked into the living room and turned on the TV. She flipped through the channels. Nothing was on so she then decided to make a fort out of the couch cushions.

“Ella, what do you think you’re doing.” said Joel walking into the room.

“Making a fort, sorry no boys allowed.” she said smirking.

“Whatever.” said Joel laughing.

“Lady and Gentleman, may I present to you the amazing Sanger!” shouted Sanger as he walked into the house.

“Hey, what about me?” said Evan.

“Well, you were implied.” Sanger shot back at him.

“Can we please just get to school now?” said Ella climbing out of the cushions.

“Not until you clean that up.” said Joel walking out the door and into the car.

“Are you two going to help me?” asked Ella.

“Nope, it’s all you baby, it’s all you.” said Sanger smirking as he too walked out the door with Evan behind him.

Joel found his locker and put two books in. He turned around only to find Ella standing right behind him.

“Jeez, Ella.” said Joel.

“I’m here to walk you to class.” she said smiling.

“Oh, great.” said Joel sarcastically as he remembered the day they first met. They were both new and they had no idea where they were going. So they walked around the school like lunatics trying to find their classes.

“Joel?” said Ella trying to get his attention back.

“Oh, yeah, sorry. I was just thinking.” said Joel.

“Don’t hurt your head.” said Ella laughing.

“Very funny.” said Joel picking her up and carrying her bridal style to their class. Joel opened the door only to hear the bell ring as soon as he got into the class. They both took their seats next to each other and began to listen to Mr. Drake welcome them back.

Meanwhile Sanger and Evan were in their homeroom. They were both older than Ella and Joel by one year. They were Juniors.

“Ouch.” said Evan as a paper airplane hit him in the side of the head. He looked over at Sanger who was smiling innocently.

“Read it.” he whispered to Evan. He watched Evan open it and read what was inside.

The bell rang and Evan and Sanger walked out of the room together.

“Really, do you think that we could?” asked Evan.

“Oh yeah, how awesome would that be?”

“Awesomely awesome.” replied Evan.

“Good, well, it’s not for sure yet, but when it is we’ll tell Joel and Ella.” said Sanger walking up to his locker.

“What do you have next? I have math.” asked Evan

“Um, English. No! This is the first year I don’t have a class with you. Evan, I’m going to die without you.” said Sanger overdramatically.

“Sorry, but I don’t swing that way, son. See you after class.” said Evan closing his locker and making his way to class.

Ella and Joel had better luck this year. They had all their classes together, except gym. They were both on their way to English when Ella stopped to see something disturbing. She saw her ex-boyfriend sucking face with another girl.

“Ew.” Ella muttered as Joel yanked her away from the crime scene. “I can’t believe it! We just broke up two days ago, and he already has a new girlfriend!” said Ella to herself.

“Hun, I’m afraid people are beginning to think you’re crazy.” said Joel as they walked into the room.

“Don’t interrupt me when I’m talking to myself.” Ella stated as she grabbed a book of the teacher’s desk and took a seat. Joel sat beside her again and opened his book.

Evan dashed out of the room as soon as the bell rang. Class without Sanger was horrible! He ran to his locker.

“Evan, I missed you!” said Sanger hugging him.

“I missed you too. Now get off me man.” said Evan pulling away.

“I think people think we’re lovers.” said Sanger laughing at some people who were looking at him weirdly.

“Sanger, I have English now.” said Evan sadly.

“I have math now.” said Sanger looking down. They both shared another man-hug and went their separate ways once again.
