5th June 1944

A Chapter by Harkness

They told us today that it was happening tomorrow, this will be it. The big day, the day that every single man has been preparing for for the last four years. Sure we've all be off on an operation in some far off country here and there. Old Neville was in Africa just a few days ago but was shipped back here for the big fight. All we know about it is that we're going over by boat, landing and taking our objective. Sgt Murray is still with us, and that b*****d McCraken is still here, he's beginning to rub off on the lads, but he's still a pain in the arse.

I finally got promoted to lance corpral, i knew it was coming, the sarge was looking at everything i've been doing for the past few days. We also got a load of new chaps who joined us to replace the dead. Our platoon was down to twenty men, so we needed the ten new men. They are good lads, but we'll see how they cope when we get to Normandy.
