Try Telling Them

Try Telling Them

A Poem by Harkness

Try telling a man with no family and no home that there is hope

Try telling a woman with no future, no life that there is hope

Try telling a child with no mother or father that there is hope

Try telling a newborn baby with no family, no future that there is hope

Try telling a man who's country has been ransacked and pillaged that there is hope

Try telling a woman thrown from here doorstep that there is hope

Try telling a child who's father is murdered in front of them that there is hope

Try telling a newborn child destined for death that there is hope

Now

Try telling the man with a glimmer in his eye

A glimmer of something that can reshape lives

Try telling the woman with strength in her voice

A strength that unites the people

Try telling the child with a dream

A dream of a better future

Try telling the newborn child with a face of an angel

A face that tells us why we are here

Try telling them that there is no hope.
