The Split

The Split

A Poem by Harkness

The banging

The Crashing

The Screaming

The Wailing

The sound of plates hitting the newly decorated kitchen walls,

An over-turned chair, a broken vase

The fighting begins once again

Usually it only lasts for a few minutes

Heated words fired across the room

Piercing sarcasm shot at the opposition

Sharp tongues slicing the air

Today it lasted longer

The words were hotter

The sarcasm stronger

The Tongues sharper

My sister lies on her bed

Strangely no tears are falling

But thoughts are running

"Will I get two rooms?" she asks

I look into her innocent eyes

She cannot see the pain of the split

She cannot see the felling of the family tree

The breaking of the bonds

But I see it

Slicing into the roots of the family

Tearing and ripping away the carefully lain plans

Destroying glorious dreams

What will become of it all?

Will the tree fall?

Will the family be uprooted?

Will my sister get her second room?

Very nicely drawn to start off with the sounds of how everyone is affected of the split up, and quite audible too, which has an impact to the whole situation, and how others are affected such as the speaker and his sister, taking it all in, enjoyed the story, it has a great impact!!
