For the First TimeA Poem by Xander West
For The First Time
Sometimes the sunlight shines too bright, The moon's allure is a little too strong, We end up holding on a little too tight, So I say I love you for the very first time, As I whisper goodbye gently for the last, Now if only I could get you off my lonely mind, No longer do we need to continue the fight, Through every loving push and angry pull, We knew all along things were never quite right, Sometimes our beating hearts have it all wrong, We can falll in love for all the wrong reasons, Yet such passion makes for the saddest song, So I say I love you for the very first time, As I whisper goodbye gently for the last, Now if only I could get you off my lonely mind, The best of our moments rest in tearful memories, The happiest of our days must lay in separate ways, Yet hearts hold on to what our mind never sees, Letting go may never be the easiest task to do, But some hearts are meant to forever run free, For the first today I admit I fell in love with you, So I say I love you for the very first time, As I whisper goodbye gently for the last, Now if only I could get you off my lonely mind, Sometimes in love what's wrong feels so right, Yet what feels so right is completely wrong, We no longer need to continue this exhausting fight, With cold tears drying upon my solemn cheeks, I forever let you go freely this lonesome day, So you may find what your heart seeks So I say I love you for the very first time, As I whisper goodbye gently for the last, Now if only I could get you off my lonely mind. © 2017 Xander West |
