Keys to my Soul and Heart

Coming home to a lonely silence,

Missing your voices that are so vibrant,

Curling up each cold night all alone,

Listening to the same old sad love songs,

I simply can't get you off my wondering mind,

I'll love you until the very end of time.

Thinking of your sweet smiles so bright,

Simply the most beautiful of treasured sights,

Crying all through the damp miserable night,

I can't help but missing you,

But there's nothing, nothing to do,

Looking through photos of our memories,

Reaching out for hugs that are always empty.

Walking blindly through every dull day,

Searching for just the right words to say,

That you two are the keys to my soul and heart,

These 1600 miles can't keep us apart,

Somehow, somewhere I will discover a way,

To wipe all our lonely tears far far away,

I'm your father, and I'm here to stay

I can imagine, and I know how distance is. I have a four year old that is halfway across the world with her father, and I can't see her.

I am sorry. It is painful. I know. I have been in Afghanistan multiple of times, and the time apart from your children has more of impact upon me then the violence experienced.

Yeah, no kidding. I've enlisted into the military because I feel it's right, and I know the risks are even higher than what most think
