One Rose

One Rose

A Poem by Xander West

One Rose

Standing alone, beautiful and elegant,

Awe-inspiring and magnificent,

Once the color of brilliant dark red,

As of a heart, broken and bleed

Thorns still sharp so need to fear,

Even beauty mask pain my dear,

Gorgeous Petals once soft and lush,

Beauty rendering audience to a hush,

One glance causing tears of love,

Fitting to belong far far above,

Stained by the loves of past,

A darker hue now come to last.

Stem so strong and firm long ago,

If only these pains we didn't know,

Bright green and sprouting alive,

Such sorrows bring along a sigh,

Over time slowly coming to die,

Yet still beautiful no one can deny.

I stand alone as one broken rose,

Carrying such pain no one knows,

Once young and simply magnificent,

Yet, no longer claiming innocence,

Even a dying rose is beautiful,

How the loves of our life are so cruel.
