This Letter

A Poem by Xander West
"

Written about my ex wife some time after she left. Something about the emotion of pain that brings out an artistic creation.

"

There are so many words I can't bear to say,
As I stare deeply into the intensity of your eyes,
I wish to bare all my thoughts one day,
Yet I am left speechless each time I try.

You must have stumbled across a missing key,
Discovered a treasure unlocking so much more,
You must have uncovered a hidden place in me,
Found a way to my heart to swing open the door,

Even though I cried alone so often in pain,
For the loss of you, my one true friend.

Will our life ever be the same once again,
If all else passes will this passion be our end,

I realized our love is worth so much,
As I lay alone weeping through the night,
So I allow my soul to finally be touched,
Without even putting up a fight,

Are my weary eyes deceiving me,
When I see your beauty standing there,
Are you merely playing games with me,
To prove to all that I truly care?

You speak my name in a prelude,
As if a reference to an old love,
With such a loving attitude,
As if it were a message from above,

With the palms of your hands,
Pressed firmly against mine,
We watch a dove  nearby land,
And now the sun begins to shine.

Someday I shall come to see,
That our past is not to regret,
You will whisper our love to me,
Or shall you forever forget,

If that happens and my spirit dies,
If my emotions suddenly drop,
Will you want to hold me as I cry,
Or will our love just suddenly stop,

Yet we can't expect to love and never cry.

You will stay and play your lovely part,
But after our beauty starts to die,
Will your footprints reside upon my heart,

Though it will be hard to say goodbye,
Your friend I shall eternally be,
As long as we together try,
To keep friendship between you and I.

This love letter I will never send,
Yet I might casually inquire,
How could you have brought our love to an end,
I thought I was your one desire,

And if this life we know is over,
You will always be thoroughly missed.

While it will be to late to start over,
So I will simply leave you with this,

I will hold you for a lifetime,
If you would just hold my hand,
We could have a wonderful time,
In the days we have yet to plan

Wow that first stanza really tore me down and held me there to read the rest which is a hard thing to do for such a long piece but then stanzas 4 and 5 grabbed on too and suddenly there's this great piece of writing bringing tears to my eyes; with lines like "Will your footprints reside upon my heart" and "We could have a wonderful time,
In the days we have yet to plan" I couldn't help but choke up. This is a very well written and thoughtful piece and I am favoriting this to read again someday. Thank you for your excellent contribution to the art of poetry :)

No problem. I'm glad to be the bearer of good news
Overall, this was an intense read! There was a lot for the empathetic heart to feel, and so much mental visual that was to be seen. You write very fluently and with very strong passion, it's hard to believe you at one point stopped writing! I do have one critique and that has to do with the meter and rhythm of the poem. The beginning is smooth, but then it seems to hit a bit of turbulence! Perhaps your passion took over and you felt you needed to put all of it into words - which is perfectly fine! This is poetry and what's poetry without passion? Just words! This is a beautifully made gem, but I believe it would shine brighter if you buffed out the rougher edges and perhaps did a little bit more revision! But, otherwise, it's a very lovely, heartbreaking piece.

This was so sweet and yet still sad at the same time, and I can really feel the emotion put into it.

It's a beautiful poem. You need to work on it a bit, on the rhythm...some verses are too long and make the poem seem a bit disrupted. Otherwise it has emotion
