Mountains side

Mountains side

A Poem by Eric Zavala

It's such a steep climb up the mountains side
I don't know if I could reach the peak
Is risking my life worth the answers I seek?
One wrong move and I will lose it all
My life would end from one last fall
I need a break to get some rest
Even finding a spot to lay is a test
On the mountains side
There are monsters that hide
And I can feel them wanting blood
They attack me like a flash flood
Taking them on through the night
Each one puts up a hell of a fight
They try so hard to make me weak
They can't stop me from reaching the peak
Climbing up this mountains side
I find flowers and memories which have dried
And they don't look like they did before
The flowers have their thorns but the memories hurt so much more
And while I'm climbing up the mountains side
I can see this mountains peak
And only a few of the answers I seek
I can't believe that this is all that is there
Honestly I don't feel that this is fare
So I have to head down the mountains side
To see all the challenges I had to face
To get to the highest place
And if I didn't try my best
I know this would be my first and last test
On the mountains side
