The monster

The monster

A Poem by Eric Zavala

When You see his eyes turn red
You know he's not dead
He's all anger with no fear
He saved it up all year
When you hear his screams
You know it's the monster in my dreams
He comes and takes my place
Sometimes it hard to tell
We share a face
He finds the strength I didn't know I had
Sometimes the monster gets bad
When he does breaks free
The monster takes over me
And when I give him the wheel
Our anger is all I feel
Me and him are connected
From the tangle webs within
It's strange when I'm the one hiding in
Away from everything out there
I'm gone away completely unaware
Of what is going on
By the time I do the moments already gone
He uses me as a disguise
He's full of anger and lies
He lies behind my eyes
So it times we stand across from each other
Me and him are closer then twin brothers
I'm dressed in black
And he's dressed in white
He's darkness and I am the light
My eyes are white while his are red
My heart is living while his is dead
We both live in this land made of water
That's what we walk upon
It's a endless lake we stand on
But our reflections don't appear
They don't show themselves all year
The only one that dares to show
Is of the person me and the monster know
And he only does when me and the monster come together
To show the real me
That's the only reflection the monster and I can see
But then we break apart
And fight like we did at the start
But at night when our eyes are back to white
You know the monster is locked away another night
