Crawling Dark

Crawling Dark

A Chapter by Austin Wade Runyon

{In my sleep it creeped to my bed
Reached a claw up to the board and crawled in my head}
Darkness is crawling into my brain
I can feel it laying it's foul eggs
Stretching tendrils through my cerebral arteries
In vain, engaged the struggle within my veins
Like vines they writhe as razorheaded worms
Fleshy maze, a tapestry infected and enflamed
Thorns reave through dura matter, diseased the slits it leaves
A thousand infernal needles are shiveled ferns further strain the bloated flesh maimed
But the symptom is dying and withered are the remains
Hydrocephalus thenceforth arduous shriveling in pain
