bittersweet memories

A Poem by Beautiful Chaos

I'm starting to fathom your presence here is absent

Maybe it's the alcohol stains

Or the way your cocaine spilled all over the floor

It might have been the late night coffee talks

The way your smell drove me wild

Could it be those nights on the floor

Filled to the rim with pleasure

As it was poured into a vase too small

Overflowing and beautifully overtaking

All the ways you drove me crazy in love

Or maybe it's the way the bruises shone in the light

The way your smile was so ill

It could make the healthiest sick

The day turn into night

You could do whatever you wanted

Throw some around

Take it back

And in the night it was yours to drive away with.

Maybe all these things intertwined somewhere

I just couldn't see

My vision is blurred

And it has been for a time

You took all I had and never gave a second thought

Maybe the lights are shining too bright

Or maybe you're really gone.

I love break up/leaving poems, and this has to be one of the most amazing ones i've read in awhile. It was deep, and i loved the way it sounded.

The irony isn't missed in this poem. It is sad, and deeply emotive, but delves deep into the narrator's heart for answers that aren't found ... only assumed.
