The Highway Man

The Highway Man

A Poem by Tori
"

a contribution to the famous poem/song.

"

A man once loved a women,

in a time of war,

But alas the chains of darkness,

held him from her chamber door.

With a final touch of her ivory hair,

and a single kiss in the night,

he pledged to return to her

by the glow of the pale moonlight.

Upon his leave the men of the king,

came marching into town,

and the land-lord's daughter cried out

as her hands and fate were bound.

Laughs and jests grew silent,

as the highwayman rode into sight,

And drove by a lovers madness,

The black eyed girl, she slew her life.

The sound of the musket drew him

To turn and ride away,

only did he know of her,

by the light of the day.

Rage and sorrow burned him,

And he rode out to aveange,

but alas the odds were against him,

and he rode towards the end.

The muskets rang like a siren,

And the highway man fell dead,

He sought not darkness on his journey,

but dreamed of her instead.

They say at night when the moon is high,

and the wind blows through the trees,

You'll see the highwayman come riding,

blood soaked to his knees.

He waits for her outside the door,

He calls her name again,

The highwayman he waits for her,

outside the old man's inn.

The Highway Man came riding...

riding….

riding….
