Rumble Strip

Rumble Strip

A Poem by Wynter Ignatius
"

The roads of life heed warnings...

"

Cruising along a highway
Nowhere to go
Lost
Direction unknown
Tourist in your own life
As the vehicle slides to the side

Hearing the rumble
And grumble ahead
Swerving to avoid sudden exit
Snap decision
Near crash
Shocked conscious awakened
Blinking
Stiff controlled movements

Jacked up on caffeine
Looking for a rest stop
Body sore
Needs to move
As eyelids get heavier
Close to succumbing quickly
Napping
On road less travelled

Again with grating noise
Arms swing left with purpose
Only to over compensate
Head on unavoidable
Into another
Carnage
Left to pick up
Pieces of yourself
