Hang Ups

Hang Ups

A Poem by Wynter Ignatius
"

There is always that one voice we can't get enough of

"
A million ways
To not say goodbye
Still not enough
Between timid voices
Lost in conversation
For another word spoken

An excuse
To carry on

Be not
The last word

Please share
One more story

Anecdote me
Into another hour

Be there no sudden end
Of your voice
As I too can hear
A complete lack of desire
To let this go

So we can tell
Another joke

Throw out
Pleasant compliments

Every time longer
Gets harder to end
A willingness to chat
About anything
For another minute more
Our best to prolong
Inevitable hang ups
Softly ignoring
Discussion of closing
As we're swept away
Listening in on

Every resounding laugh

Every vocalized smile

Every careful blush

And every word
Left unspoken
But heard loudly and clear
Just before
The hang ups
We fight
To never see

been there. This then is the truth. When you love someone. Whether in the first throes of love or then in the aftermath when you have distance separating you. You never want to say goodbye; end the call. You want it to go on and on. With this poem you have captured every subtle nuance of long distance relationships... I know how it feels. yes I do. Beautiful, heart wrenching. love it

Long distance relationship; I'll have to tell her that is what others see it as. :)

I like the use of spacing as an emphasis of specific thought. It's hard to be apart from someone you love so much that you want sit and talk for hours about anything and you know you will. It's even worse when the only time you are able to speak to this person is over the phone and rarely in person.

If we were able to speak in person I might be kidnapped.

oh wow... I absolutely LOVE this.. it is soooo true.. you captured the feeling perfectly!! the infectious giggles that make you FEEL the smile on the other end of the phone, the sighs that stretch the miles to tug at your heart... the silences that are so comfortable like holding your hand... wow... just wow... the flow of this kept you HANGING on every line building the intensity skillfully and powerfully.. Stunning write.. fav for sure!!!!

*one side one** did you mean "heard" instead of "head" in the last stanza??
