CheckmateA Poem by Wynter IgnatiusLife, while not a game still conforms to various rules...Calm is just another four-letter word Held to tightly between the ticks of life's clock Tangible only in it's constant absence Only seconds to spare for another move Divided battlefield of both light and darkness Hoping each calculated risk avoids sudden removal Constantly placing us in check to see us move Sacrificial pawns used to shield from damage Bishops crisscross about our faithful thoughts Rooks slow to change to keep us in line Knights jumping to our defense from the corners Kings slow to move unless castles are involved Where queens move and commands utmost reverence Even from those below a king's station or authority Protecting the most important pieces with zeal Even if overlooked by the armies of others To see them across the the chaos before them Other side a metamorphosis of character awaiting Willing agents of this change loyal and true Fearing not the darkness forming before us all Wanting to put life in its place for another so adored Checkmate for the heart and soul of someone so pure Worthy of sacrifice till it all starts anew As the colors and shapes may change from day to day The game can be modified and altered over time But the pieces remain the same in role and place Guarding others from checkmate as long as they can
