The Folly of Pretense

The Folly of Pretense

A Poem by Wynter Ignatius
"

Raw, unfiltered and directly from the heart...

"
Funny how things seem to crumble and fail
Viewed from one's mind about an uncertain future
Seeing more than is there in good hearts
Just getting a feel for where things lie
Speaking of the sole as something wonderful
Yet rather accustomed to trading with the uncouth
Swapping smiles for your hidden frowns
All OK, all fine, not bad at all in your world
Not wanting to hurt another with rejection
Of a situation that never started to begin with
Where the potentiality outweighed all you've gained
Hiding from that not carved from finest marble
No Michelangelo's David to turn tail and leave
With not even their ear left to hear your woes
Chasing a care of only the flesh and nothing more
All over pretense foolishly kept to yourself
Bring stinging bite of a brutal blade to bear
Without intention doesn't quite dull the pain
As watching this unfold twists the knife deeper
Going through the motions for momentary bliss
No credence to the unasking and unassuming friend
All over a thought and possible path unblazed
Letting the field go fallow and unattended
Expecting weeds to not overgrow and strangle life
From one who only wanted to know you better
Show you to a good time without more pretense or demands
Leaving silent the man not prancing about your heart
For fools unknowingly dimming your soul
Their pretense paid in full never to give more than they left
Flesh their only foolish desire to be given by you
